Why are we in Iraq?

Considering that one blew himself up in a Morocco internet cafe simply because the owner wouldn't let him look at extremist sites, I don't think it takes too much to do that.

Wrong, that's one case. There are people like that in USA too, they just don't have access to IED's. That guy was just a lunatic.

FYI Islam only allows for killing in self defense.

If we were actually worried about terrorism we would go into Pakistan and drive Al Qaeda out. One successful coup and you've got nuclear armed Al Qaeda on your hands.

And I don't understand how they can say they are fighting terrorists and in the same breath talk about our open border. Do you think Al Qaeda doesn't know about our open border? They could be in Mexico in the morning and blowing up downtown LA by dinnertime. If they were really worried about terrorism they would secure the damn border.

My explanation for the "war on terror" and why it's not about freeing the people of Iraq or stopping terror.

Well self defense can also mean driving out a foreign imperialist power, which is what they see the US as.

How do you explain militants blowing themselves up in Pakistan? It happens at least once a week; in a mosque, a hotel, a Pakistan Army formation. The self defense argument doesn't hold water, because they do it on a regular basis against their own people as well.

Well I'm not talking about why they are blowing each other up in Pakistan, I'm talking about why they are attacking America. Islam does only allow killing in self defense but like all religions the message gets misinterpreted or changed by the followers of it.

The people in Pakistan may be blowing each other up because one side supports the west. President Musharraf of Pakistan is supported by USA and hated by the Islamists. This could explain most of the attacks, but I can't say for sure.

People kill each other in every other country you know. Some people just go nuts and kill lots of people, I'm sure there are a lot more reasons to do it when you live in a crappy third world country.

What happened at Virginia Tech? The same type of thing that happens over there on an everyday basis only with a gun instead of a homemade bomb.

They don't just go nuts and attack people at random. Some people seem to think this in America and it's completely stupid. I have met many Muslims (mostly Iranians ) and they don't just go around bombing places for no reason at all. They are just like us once they get out of the Middle East. Go live in one of these countries for a while and try to come back and say that they do this stuff for no reason. You won't be able to do it.

They don't do it only because of their religion either. If Christians or Jews were in the same situation as some of these people they would also be using suicide bombs.

b22...

Pakistan is in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. If it supports America, Al Qaeda and friends will do their best to take over. However if Musharaff doesn't play puppet to America, our great and fearless leader might consider bombing Pakistan for "letting the turrists win."

And Manedwolf proves my whole post wrong by posting a few pictures

I've seen the same type of thing coming from plenty people in America.

Really? I've never seen Americans beheading innocent people with a machete as a form of political protest.

Have you?
No they just bomb abortion clinics and brutally assault gays for no good reason.

I don't see anyone being beheaded. I see people making violent statements at a political rally. There's plenty of that in the USA.

An American has recently killed over 50,000 innocent iraqis though...

So go search youtube for beheading videos. There's plenty, with cheers, music and chants of "allahu akbar". Didn't see Nick Berg's screams as his head was sawed off?

WTF?!

And how many did Saddam kill in his mass killings and when he gassed the Kurds, and rounded up any opposition and their families?

No wonder we're not doing well in the war, when we have traitors like this demoralizing the poor troops...

I bet it was a lot less than 50,000. Saddam kept his act together after that, that was over 10 years before we went into Iraq.

No wonder we're not doing well in the war, when we have traitors like this demoralizing the poor troops...
A huge number of the troops don't even support this war anymore. Many of them won't speak out though.

I'd be pretty mad if I was over there and got my tour extended right when I thought I was going home.

And speaking out against a useless, endless war is not being a traitor.

And how many did Saddam kill in his mass killings and when he gassed the Kurds, and rounded up any opposition and their families?

So we should measure our actions against those of Saddam Hussein?

No wonder we're not doing well in the war, when we have traitors like this demoralizing the poor troops...

Traitors? Wow...this hyperbole goes to 11.

And you're right, it's people talking against the war on internet forums that are demoralizing the "poor troops," not the 15-on 10-off deployments, or 18 month deployments for reservists. Or being sent to play police officer in a country where the bad guys have bombs. Or "fighting" an enemy that rarely gives a target to shoot back at. Or having what is, by our own doctrine as well as common sense, too small a force to actually accomplish our supposed mission. Or...yeah, I'll stop there for now.

Yeah, saying crap like that "Americans killed 50,000 Iraqis" when the troops are deployed and fighting for our freedoms IS traitorous.

Deal with it. Once upon a time, that'd have been frowned upon. But I suppose the troops will also get the same welcome home they got after Vietnam, too, from ungrateful people who call them murderers for doing their job.

Maybe they should just all quit, and let the terrorists they're fighting over there come over here instead, so the people who demoralize and insult them can deal with the problem firsthand in their cushy suburban malls and gated communities.

See if they still say such things after a few neighborhood car bombings. We are fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here...and some people still don't see it.
