Why are there almost no left handed handguns?

With 15-20 percent of people being left handed, that is a big chunk of the market. I know theres a lot of auto wit ambi controls but none that eject left, and revovlers are a whole different game with reloads. So, why doesnt somebody make left handed gun? Seems like a big target market and would sell well.

Pistols, don't bother me, really. I have learned to use them as a lefty, and probably couldn't adapt, this late in the game.
Rifles too, for the most part, although I did pass on a nice little bullpup because the casings would have been spitting out into my face...lol

Because the volume isn't there, yet Charter, IIRC, has/had a LH revolver, and there have been a few LH semis made over the years. I suppose you could have Wilson or Baer might build you one

It seems to me a whole lot of them are designed to be ambidextrous these days.

I don't see where the problem is.

Im right handed, it just always confused me. I think smith or ruger needs to make a left hand wheelgun.

IIRC the Randall was made in a left hand version, also some left hand semiautos from some smaller manufacturers, and there are those who argue the Colt SAA is really a left handed gun. The best known left handed shooters I know of were Charlie Askins and now Craig Boddington. I think if there was a real market the demand would have been filled. Plus how many "lefties" are left handed but right eye dominant and hence feel comfortable with right handed firearms. I recall something Dean Grennell said, namely that reloading had made him very ambidextrous, and he wrote that during WWII when he ran a shooting range for Uncle Sam it took him abour 2 weeks to become as proficient with the M1911A1 with his left hand as he was with his right.

It's all about volume. To design and re-tool for a left-handed pistol would be very expensive for a market that is only 10-15% of what it is for right-handed pistols. Good for Charter for doing it.

15 - 20% of people may be left handed ....but many of them have adapted to a right hand world for a long time / on all kinds of things ...as kids and adults..( even on things as simple as a pair or scissors ) ...

Of the 15 - 20% -- how many will be gun owners / caring enough to have something specialized to a "leftie" .....1%, 2% ... and I don't know / but not too many ....especially if its a "premium gun" that could be made to a "lefties" configuration ....especially if its 20% more expensive...

I have grandkids that are lefties / and some buddies that are lefties that are shooters ... and with most handguns / my buddies have very few issues adapting to 1911's as an example - if it has a good ambi safety on it. Companies like Wilson Combat will make different safeties / bigger - flatter, etc for a leftie ....but none of the custom makers of 1911's has gone so far as move the mag release, etc on a 1911 for lefties....

But there are some operation on a 1911 - like releasing the mag - that are frankly easier to do for a leftie ...than a very dominant right handed person like me ....putting them on target faster, with a mag change in a 1911...

Since a lot of lefties learn to adapt at a young age ....they frankly seem more ambidextrous ....than most of us dominant righties ever seem to develop. My wife is a leftie / and she'll tell you they're smarter, more flexibile, more adaptable, etc ....because as "righties" we're just bullies ... and don't ever have to adapt ....( and she's probably right / but she puts up with me anyway )....

+1 from a left hander.

I'm a lefty and I own several left handed guitars, one left handed can opener and one bolt action left handed rifle. The guitars and bolt action are must haves for me. Handguns, oo be honest, I've never had a problem shooting right handed handguns. They are all very easy to adapt to and I wouldn't go out of my way to hunt down a left handed gun. I certainly wouldn't pay any extra for one.

Why "ARE" there almost no left handed Handguns?

:I am very left handed and I got over it a long time ago, just deal with it, we Lefites are generaly smarter and more ingenious:p,so it's no big problem, LOL:D.
Seriously, I do not find it a handicap at all. I shot IPSC for years with a 1911 and did not find it a hinderence at all. I shoot my bolt Guns just as well as my righty buddies, etc.
Now I do have an Ambi safety on my Kimber, My HKUSP .40 is truly an Ambi gun, and the Piece de Resistance is that I am the proud owner of a Left Hand German made Weatherby MkV in .300Wby::D!! But Honestly, I cannot shoot it much faster or more accuratly than any "Right Handed Gun". And yes the Colt's Pattern does seem to be made for us Lefties, I may do a thread search on here about the origin of this, or maybe start a new thread.
The only real problem I can see is with a "Bullpup" design. I held a Steyr AUG at a gun store a long time ago, and was told that it could be switched to make the brass eject from the other side, but...
Anyway, that does bring up an interesting point, the Brits with their L somethingawhatever,( Sorry, I know, major Technical Info flag thrown for that:o, but I DO remember that their optic on the guns was the very good, indestructalbe SUSAT sighing system;)) how do the Limeys deal with Lefties? can anyone here, and I am SURE that on TFL, SOMEONE CAN;):, tell us what the provision is for left handed shooters given their individual weapons platform?

If lefty guns were important enough for ones proficiency, the military would have done something about it for the last 200+ years. :D

The reason is that left-handed people are generally much smarter, so the manufacturers figure a leftie can figure out an ambi or a rightie gun, but righties aren't smart enough to figure out leftie guns. This is why there are so few left-handed guns made.
