Why are Glock owners so emotional?

Without getting into bitching arguments, somebody please explain to me why are a lot of Glock owners so emotional and defensive towards their Glocks?

Personally, I prefer 1911s and the 1911s do get bashed quite a bit. However, I rarely see 1911 owners starting screaming and hollering when a 1911 joke is made.

I've wondered this myself, I've owned a 21(it was a POS) and I currently own a 17 (it's a great gun) but I've never felt the need to join the cult of the Glock.
Perhaps the fact that Glocks are usually cheaper than Sig, HK or Colt guns makes them feel a little too close to the Ruger/Taurus/Rossi stigma?

That is because to have a good joke means one must have a ring of truth to it. In many configurations a 1911 is unreliable as a defensive arm ( in others its awsome).

Glocks on the other hand are out of the box reliable nearly 100% of the time. To make jokes about say a glock going Ka-Boom is to pry a old and fixed wound that discourages people from buying this fine handgun.

1911 guys dont hollar cause they know it is true!!!!

It is usually a case of uncertainty and insecurity. Before you disagree completely, check out some of the responses you get from the Glockophiles.
Personally I don't have anything against them except that the Glock just doesn't fit my hand-or vice versa.

I swear I'm going to puke the next time I hear someone use that tired, played out old cliche, "'Nuff said".

Glock owners that understand the utilitarian and practical facets of the Glock, hence employing the pistol for their various uses, are completely logical and level-headed people. [Offensive language removed.]

Now of course this isn't some universal "Mylhouse Axiom", and doesn't apply in every case, but it is just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth, and that isn't much.

I had an original cobblestone framed M17, and I've shot the M22(.40) and the 21(.45). They ARE really good guns, but not for me. Mostly, it has to do with the way they fit and point. The trigger safety lever aggravates my fingerip too.
I MAY just buy a M19 to see how I do with it. If I don't like it, I'll leave it as the wife's house gun. (She liked the M17 I've borrowed on several occasions. :))

I prefer steel over plastic but that's my own personal preference. However, I used to own a 17 and still own a 30. They are fine defensive pistols.

On the other hand, IMO, my H&K Tactical is a much better firearm than either my 17 or 30. If somebody cracks a joke about my tupperware, I don't get the "well, my mother can kick your mother's ass and her ass is big as hell" syndrome. I.E. Glocks are more reliable than 1911s blah blah friggin blah.

It's those radical Glock owners that make everybody else look bad. Get a grip.

Possible explanation...

I am a Glock owner, and I don't think that I am emotional. I own other guns too. My G26 meets my needs for a concealable handgun better than any other that I have tried. My G19 points and shoots naturally and is reliable. Then again so is my Ruger P95. I just prefer to carry my Glocks. The calibers are the same, and the mags interchange.
What's emotional about that?

I'm not saying all Glock owners. Just a very large group are very emotional.

I don't find Glock owners to be much different than SIG owners, or the folks who like 1911s... They all get kinda irrational if you impugn their weapon of choice.

There seems to be a strange (psychic?) link between a man's choice of guns and his "manhood": disparage either one and most guys tend to get very emotional.

ArmySon,

Do you honestly believe that most 1911's are more or less reliable that Glock?

Or is it not about function but about form? Is it the appeal the EMTIONAL side of you? Or do you have personal experiance that dictates your chiose? Please explain....

Because they're trigger fingers hurt from getting pinched.

It's either that or denial...

PS: just try being a Walther fan around this forum; it'll get you worked up too.

Take the long way home...

Why are we gun owners emotional about any of our pet guns? Because we love them! I certainly love all my children even though I can't take them all to the range. Some of them I don't even clean after a trip to the range. Oh, I live to retire and to go Home on the Range.

Hey Mr. Moderator,

I'm guessing this thread belongs in General Discussion if it belongs on this board at all.....

Nevermind, I deleted the post. Everytime I say anything about Glocks it just causes trouble. Better I stay outta this.

To a degree, 1911s are unreliable. However, it's complete BS to say all 1911s are unreliable. My carry gun, a Wilson CQB passed my torture test. After intial break in (500 rounds), I fired it 1000 times without cleaning to see if it would jam. It passed with flying colors. It finally jammed around 1200 rounds WITHOUT cleaning.

I fired it from all different positions, limpwristing and all. It still functioned flawlessly. If that's not reliable, than I don't know what is. However, the 3 Kimbers I used to own were not reliable. Neither is the Les Baer I own and a Springfield V10. My Ed Brown, Colt 1991, and Wilson Sentinel are also reliable.

To answer your question, I prefer:
1. the single action of a 1911
2. Steel
3. Single Stack
4. bazillion parts for customization
5. I can shoot just about any reload.. lead and all

Like I stated before, it's personal preference. I like my G30 but prefer my 1911s.

To further elaborate on your question, yes I have personal experience that dictates my choice. I do quite well in ISPC and IDPA matches with a 1911. Although I never tried a Glock in competition, I really do not think it would do nearly as well. Why is it a majority of world class ISPC and IDPA shooters use 1911s?

Horny Toad, it belongs in the handgun forum because we are talking about a HANDGUN. Why is it we can't have an adult like debate without somebodying bitching? If there were no debates, it would be an awfully boring world.

Son,

Do you actually consider this thread adult? Wow.

Also, this thread is not about handguns. It's about why people get emotional about certain types of handguns. I consider that a bit of a stretch for the "Handguns and Pistolcraft" forum. If you consider this bitching, too bad.
