Why are 1911 wrenches so loose fitting?

Dynamite bushing fit

Quote:When I say "impossible," I mean "not possible without destructive tools." Two of us worked at it, me and the ex-Marine. We had a steel bushing wrench. We took turns, with one holding the slide with both hands while the other tried to turn the wrench. Then we'd switch off and try again. We finally gave up. But ... the barrel wasn't especially tight in the bushing.

I think that bushing was too tight! Mine is challenging enough that I would have to tap it out with the barrel. I am getting a Gripwrench soon to try, they are available now.

Given that it's a GI bushing, like others have said, you shouldn't need the wrench. Match bushings will require them. I use two crappy plastic wrenches that came in the box and have more around. They are a snug fit on match bushings.
