Media leaches

What most irritates me is the media frenzy over the fact that it wasn't reported until a whole 24 hrs after the fact. They seem to go out of their way to make a big deal about nothing. A whole 24 hrs? Give me a break people.
And why even try to remotely compare this to Aaron Burr? (probably spelled that wrong).
On edit: my local FOX affiliate reported that is was a "26 guage" shotgun. They can't even get that right.

There must be a mistake. I cant find the WHO CAAAAAARESSSSSSSSS voter button.

This has been the top-of-the-hour story for DAYS. Now CNN is mad because Fox got the interview, but they wont show the interview, because then they have to show the fox symbol too. ARGH! al Qaeda jail break? MAYBE in the last few minutes of a broadcast.

It was an accident. Or was it...maybe George Bush sent him to kill old people! Yes! and then he is going to cut Social Security and midicare.

[kanye] George Bush does not care about old people [/kanye]

I could care less about it. The question was asked.

Its just like rear ending the car in front of you because he slammed on his brakes. You have a responsibility to control your speed. Yes the other car may have contributed to the accident but you are going to get the ticket.

Show me one hunter safety class where they dont tell you that you have the responsibility to ensure that the shot is a safe one. The other guy may have done something that was stupid but the burden is still yours for pulling the trigger.

If the press story is correct, the victim is to blame. Bad judgement. You do not walk up behind hunting partners and not announce your presence.

The press... dont even get me started. If I subscribed to newspapers I would save a lot of money on toilet paper.

ANOTHER VIEW
Here is a different scenario. You are deer hunting. You see a deer standing on top of a hill. You are about fifty yards away. You can make out the antlers, and they seem good. In fact, this could set a state record and get your picture plastered on the cover of the next issue of Field and Stream. However, your angle does not allow you to see on the other side of the hill. Are you going to shoot?

Hunter safety rules say that you don't. If you are one that would take this shot, please let me know when and where you are hunting. You do not have a clear vision of what lies on the other side of the hill. If you miss, for all you know, there could be a Boy Scout camp in direct line of fire or maybe even me.

Same holds true when you are bird hunting. If tracking a bird your vision becomes obstructed by something like the Sun, you can not shoot at that point. You have no idea what is there. Even if you were the only one hunting that day. If you pull the trigger and cause harm to someone, it is your fault.

This does not make the person evil, or bad. It can indicate a momentary lack of good judgement. I know folks that have good bird dogs and are very picky on who they take hunting. After reading some of these replies, I don't think they can be picky enough.

"It is my understanding that Cheney said it, had one (yea right) beer before going out."

The report is that he had a beer at LUNCH.

According to one thing I heard on the radio, that was around 1:30.

The shooting accident happened somewhere between 5 and 5:30.

I didn't mean legal blame though, I meant uh, moral blame. Whittington should have been able to stop himself from being shot (maybe) by staying out of potential fields of fire.

If the press story is correct, the victim is to blame. Bad judgement. You do not walk up behind hunting partners and not announce your presence.

Hmm, gentlemen I ask you, how often do you swing around a full 180 degrees, like Cheney said he did, get blinded by the sun, and still shoot? Could the reality be that Cheney thought he heard a covey flush behind him and just shot at the sound? If the sun was in his eyes after turning 180 degrees how well did he even see his target, if he ever really saw it? Something about this whole situation just isn't sitting right.

And another point, since Cheney knew Whittington was retreiving a bird, shouldn't Cheney have expected Whittington to rejoin at one point? Would you be cautious if you knew that someone in your party was away and expected to rejoin soon?

Folks, we will probaly never know for sure what happened. They had several hours to prepare the story and they presented it like they wanted too (in a manner to best favor the VP) and not neccessarily the way it was.

Regardless it is still the shooters fault.

I saw Harry Whittington on television. He was basically telling us that he has no hard feelings and that he doesn't blame anyone. However, something struck me odd about the this. He was supposedly shot in the face. He scars sure have healed awfuly fast. Either that or he had one heck of a plastic surgeon.

Good Point

I think I may have seen the same footage.

This is almost like a Monty Python gig. We went from a fatal wounding to he's doing much better now.:D

Never.

Would you be cautious if you knew that someone in your party was away and expected to rejoin soon?

Hale yea. I'd also be cautious (or absent) if hunting with a group of people I'd never hunted with before. Blind faith in others will bite you in the arse.

And it wasn't an accident like some have posted. It was a uh, unfortunate incident.

I'd like to see our 'leaders' be proficient and qualified with small arms. All around the globe, you see world leaders strapped or with rifles. Why not here? It doesn't matter that they wear suits and push smartbomb buttons, it's practically American tradition (or should be).

Americans are the laughing stock of the globe over this now.

(DaveMcC for VP in /08)

I think it is the shotgun manufacturers fault. They need to install a device that will not allow the gun to fire if there is a human being in the sight picture and range.

Ok so that was a bad joke.

I blame the quail he was shooting at. He should have flown staight away from the VP. He must not have been paying attention during the pre-hunt briefing.

"It is my understanding that Cheney said it, had one (yea right) beer before going out."
Cheney stated he drank one beer five hours before the shooting. Everyone involved in the investigation states that alcohol had no part in the accident.

If Cheney had peened the guy in the side of the head with a golf ball, this story would have ended with the first round of Leno jokes and would have been old news by now. It was a stupid, but minor accident. The only reason anyone is talking about it is because it contains "gun" and "Chaney".
