Who was your first love? Who is you current love?

My first love was nearly two decades ago. It was a 14-round Browning BDA380 semiautomatic pistol in nickel finish. After an extremely bad relationship with a Bersa .22LR, the BDA380 was an utter joy to own. It's still part of the family and it is now my wife's home defense gun (she can shoot it better than a .38 special or any of my 9mm's, .40S&W's or .45ACP's and I would rather have her be armed with something that she can shoot accurately than with a larger caliber which she can't shoot as well).

While a number of other loves have come & gone into & out of my life, none have left the lasting impression that the BDA380 has. Although my current love, an eight round Smith & Wesson 3913TSW in 9mm, comes very close. Here they are side by side ...

FUD, this is a great topic!

My first handgun love: Colt Woodsman .22 that belonged to my Grandfather. He taught me gun safety and how to shoot with it, starting when I was around 7 or 8. He always told me if I shot it well it would be mine when I was older. That's motivation. Sadly the Colt and 9 or 10 more firearms were lost in a house fire when I was in my early teens. I could never buy a Woodsman. It wouldn't be the same.

Current handgun love: Beretta 92G Elite. An elegant, reliable weapon that makes me look like I shoot better than I do...

My fist love was a Ruger Blackhawk in .357MAG. My ex-wife kinda took it over, and I was forced to leave it with her when I got divorced . My current love is a Taurus M605 that I have "rediscovered". It's really a sweet little revolver, and I hated to see it languishing in the safe. My beloved Glock 26 graciously consented to take a rest for a while. ;)

Fud,

First Love: Pre WWII (late 1930s) Colt 1911A1 Government model. Received it as a gift from my Dad in the late sixties, immediately after I was commissioned and just before departing for Southeast Asia. Still in excellent condition, but generally kept in "deep preservation" due to its sentimental/heirloom status.

Current loves: Among my many faults is a wondering eye toward handguns. The current "top list" includes my H&K USP .45 Tactical and my two S&W 627 Special Editions. However, the Ruger GP100, the Kimber stainless Custom/Classic, the two Sigs (P-220 and P-226) still hold a dear place in my heart.

First love: Ruger Super Blackhawk, 7.5" barrel... She was a sweetheart.

Current love: Ruger P90 converted to .45 Super... She IS a sweetheart.

First love, a Colt Gold Cup Series 70
Current love, should be the same once I get it back from Steve Clark Custom.

For years I wanted a Colt 1911, so finally I bought a Government model. Seven months and 950 rounds later, after never adjusting to the heavy recoil, I sold it. A pistol that you whisper to yourself before pulling the trigger "let's just get this over with" is not a love relationship.

Today's favorite is a toss up between my German Makarov and my Browning Buckmark.

The Mak is my "serious" gun while the .22 is the "fun" gun.

After shooting either I can hardly wait to take it out again. Now that is how it should be. I dated a gal like that thirty years ago-I've still got her.

My first was anything single action Colt, from cap & ball to single action armies to Scouts and .22 Peacemakers. There is still nothing, to me at least, that is as well balanced and feels quite the same.
Current would have to be any "N" frame Smith. 'Course I gotta get me one of them "V" frames and check it out for Mike. :D
