Who taught you to shoot?

Well at the age of 5, my mother baught me and my brother matching daisy bb guns. All i did was read the manual or rather just looked at the pictures. I shot it atleast 100 times and was amazed at what was going on, so i took it apart to better understand the machanics of it.

A couple years later my mother remarried and my step father had a 20g break barrel. Which he lazily told us the basics, after shoooting it a few times i was bord. I gathered with a shotgun, if you can point it in the general area of you target and pull the trigger anyone can use it.

When i was about 9 i was rummaging around in some of my grand uncles stuff at my surprise, i found a marlin .22 that was in great cocondition. Apon asking about it the gun belonged to his son which he grew out of, he gave it to me thinking i would never obtain ammo. After weeks of relentless asking, mu mom finally bought a box of 525 $16 at that time with these words "when they are gone you done". i went trough that box in 2 weeks.

As a teen my cousin got me into bow hunting which was alot more rewarding then rifle hunting, cause it takes alot more skill and patients.

Since then i have owned .308, .270, 3030 and now im using 30-06

So i have taught myself to load, aim and fire plus safty aspects of firearms and now i am teaching my daughters

My dad taught us all the basics, safety, sight alignment, etc.

Learned over the years from other experienced hunters, soldiers, shooters; and rolled in what worked for me for each type of weapon.

My dad, He was a sniper in WWII and could really shoot, better than 20-20 vision until his 60s' wouldn't use a scope, saw him shoot and kill a deer at over 700 yards with open sights ,I'll never be that good. I started rabbit hunting for food at 8 and have never really stopped. (63) now. no longer hunt for food but do enjoy the range.

My dad bless him. We would go out to his parents farm and shoot his Ruger MK 1 target round when I was 7 years old. as I got older I would ride my bicycle to the Ikes Club on the edge of town with pistol on my side and shoot there using the Ruger. Sometimes took my dads 1917 Colt Army 45ACP with clips. A friend of his let me load rounds with his equipment.
Different times.. We had NRA instruction shooting rifles in the basement of the court house. then there was the YMCA camp where we had instruction with 22 rifles. Finally Jr. ROTC and the military.

I'm mostly self taught, had a couple friends in highschool that introduced me to shotgun shooting and my father in law has helped me a bit with rifle and handgun.

I grew up in a home without firearms. I always thought my parents were opposed to guns, but when I bought my first gun I talked to them about it and much to my surprise my mom wanted/wants to go shooting sometime. My dad didn't have a desire to shoot, but said he thought it was a right that he just never felt the need/desire to exercise although he had gone shooting before. We just lost him on Christmas of 2014, and in retrospect that discussion is one of many I am very glad I got to have with him before he got called home.

My Dad. He was a avid hunter. Growing up on a farm, my brother and I started varmint hunting at a early age (7 or 8) we worked hard but we always took the time for hunting. My shooting and hunting began over 42 years ago and I don't think to this day while in the woods hunting that I don't recall a moment in the past hunting with Dad.
My Pap past away from cancer in 04. But before he left this world he was getting ready to go get treatments and spotted a nice 8 point crossing is pasture field, season was in and he took him out the window. Way to go Dad!

My father...a cop and Marine taught me the basics.

My PMI in boot camp refined my skills with a rifle, especially in the prone position, where he used the application of boot pressure to my huevos with great effect.

Brad Schuppan, former program director at NRA Whittington Center refined my handgun skills.
