Who Switches Carry Guns Regularly?

have tried but...Walther PPK/S. hunting or maybe range trips i'll wear a revolver or 1911, both of which i put months in trying to make a swap. but like quitting cigarrettes they really didnt stick. accuracy and operation was fine, apparel and comfort level....was not.

I have more than one weapon I carry, but they are all 5" 1911's
Same here, I have almost a dozen, and change them up from time to time. Also carry a 642 as a bug, and usually a small last ditch gun...NAA .22 mag., Beretta 21 .22, or a pen gun.

I roate between 3:

Small/Summer: Kel Tec PF-9 in a pocket holster
Medium/Formal dress: Kahr CW40 IWB 4 O'Clock
Large/Outdoors/Winter:Glock 32 IWB 4 O'Clock

Once or twice a year I'll carry my FEG SMC-918 IWB,both for it's very small size, and also because the Marschal grips on it just look so damn nice...Even though I'm the only one that knows it's there,I just feel more formal when I'm carrying it...

Whatever your carry guns and methods are - as BillCA said, you MUST be familiar with the weapon and method of carry. It'd be bad to reach for a shoulder-holstered gun when your carry for that day is a belt slide. It'd be equally bad to fumble for a 1911-type thumb safety that isn't there because you're carrying a compact DAO.

I switch frequently. But I usually switch between a Glock 27 and a Sig 232 or P6. At least I don't have to worry about taking off a safety.

If I switch to something that I have to worry about a manual safety (3rd gen smith or 1911) I'll put in quite a bit of draw and dry fire time the night before. But the Glock and Sig have no safety to worry about, and that makes it a little bit easier.

It's nice to have options in the way I carry, and I'll usually carry depending on how big a gun I can hide given the situation.

I have a friend that carries a monsterous old 1911 that's a Gold Cup upper with an old Federal Ordinance frame. That's what he carries all the time, and the guy is scary good with that gun. But he's carried it 20 years now, so he better be. It's what he's comfortable with, and what he likes the best.

I rotate between 3 primaries with a 4th thrown in, in vacation settings if rural. My Kimber Ultra CDP is first and about 60% of the time. For another 30% it is my HKUSP45C. Bringing up the rear is a Glock 26, and then my Colt Delta Elite is my woods/vacation gun. The Colt will be replaced with a Glock 29 in a few months if I can shoot it as well. I shoot all these at the same range trips and know them all well. I also have a P32 BUG that I always carry and always practice with as well.

Does anyone carry two pistols at once? Lets say the main pistol under the belt or shoulder with the backup pistol on the leg for example.

I would think if you are in law enforcement or someone of any importance then its important to carry two pistols in the event one fails or simply runs out of ammo.

For the regular guy, one pistol is probably good enough.

Yes, about 95% of the time. If I have pants on, I have a Smith 637 on my ankle, if I'm in shorts, then it's in my weakside front pocket. If it is at all feasible (which it usually is) I also have a full size 1911 IWB at 4:00. My office has a very relaxed dress code, so I can wear jeans and an untucked polo every day to work, so I can carry the 1911 with very rare exception.

I'm no longer in LE, and I can't say that I'm any more "important" than the next guy, but as the saying goes, "Two is one, one is none."

Switch

I switch between a few CCWs. I carry a Glock 19, a Colt 1911, or a P7M8 most of the time. Occasionally I add in a 610 S&W, a Kahr MK40, or a K frame Snub model 15. Usually I carry the revolvers openly at the gunshop so part of that is for the "Gee Whiz" factor. The rest are just what I carry depending on my mood. I used to carry the MK40 a lot more, but I had a hand injury and when I was healing up I found out that it kicked more and was harder to shoot than the other guns. It's just not as good as the other guns, but still an OK balance of power and size. No matter what im carrying as a primary, I carry a Kel Tec P32 as a BUG. In a back pocket holster it carries easy and has a great balance of size, shootability, and power.

I carry all mine strongside Iwb, but they vary between a Glock 32, Glock 20, SW 638, or a DW CBOB. Depends on where I'm going and what I'm wearing.

For carry, get one gun, learn to use it, and and stick with it.

That's a personal preference. I have no disagreement with the practice.

I switch between my P220 and P229 all the time---depending on my mood. When I want a little more concealment, I'll carry a P239 in 9mm. Occasionally, a 1911--probably a Kimber CDP 2. Unless the mood strikes me to carry my Combat Commander.:D

Finding the carry gun that is right for you may be a journey--it has certainly been one for me.

I took my initial Texas CHL with my Glock 23 (long gone). Although I had been shooting pistols for 20+ years, I finally lived somewhere that recognized my right to carry. The Glock seemed to be the best choice within my current (modest) arsenal between size, weight and capacity. Once I started carrying it, though, I started looking for something thinner/lighter. My CHL intructor talked highly of S&W j-frames (or the equivalent) and I went through five or six in different materials and configurations. None was entirely satisfactory, for a variety of reasons.

When I bought my Kahr PM9, all those J-frames went up for sale. For the last three years I have been perfectly happy pocket carrying the PM9 for nine months per year.

During what we laughingly call "winter" in North Texas, I experiment with larger pistols. When I can wear a sweatshirt or a coat, I carry with something IWB. (I would really like to be one of those guys who carry a full size 1911, but I have a long ways to go.) Two winters ago, it was a Kahr P45. Last year it was the P45 "sometimes", my Kimber 3" Ultra Carry "sometimes", and a 4" S&W L frame 586 "sometimes". This winter it was the 586 until a week ago, and now an N Frame M-25 in 45 LC.

The purpose of all this is to a) short-term, convince myself that my skinny, busted-up old arse can carry a full size pistol or revolver full time and b) long-term, determine which one of the above is a good candidate for a). When we get through a) and b), I will work on c), which is dressing around a full-size pistol or revolver.

As I say, this is a work in progress. I have a Commander-sized Kimber and a full-sized one as well. Although my PM9 is not for sale yet, the P45 may be on the chopping block one day soon. I also have an S&W M-37 and an LCP that don't get much use and may soon be gone.

I'll say this--whatever I carry gets shot weekly. :)

I switch guns every day. On duty I carry the XD45 with an Airweight strapped to my ankle. Off duty I usually carry the 220DAK in a fanny pack. Occasionally, I put the airweight in a OWB at 4 O'clock. or jam it in a coat pocket.

I carry my Smith and Wesson 4046. I have 3 of them, and I am EXTREMELY proficient at shooting with them. I load my own TCFM rounds for plinking at the range, but carry factory loaded JHP for CCW.

I usually don't switch much, mostly carry my Mil-Spec all the time. As all my handguns are 1911 full-size models, If I do switch, no "Re-Programming" is required. the only exception being if I do carry my CZ SemiCompact, usually in summer, with shorts and a T-Shirt. But still, basically the same mechanics.

For those who carry more than one handgun, switching is not a significant problem. There is always a NAA .22LR mini-revolver in my right front pants pocket. In cold weather, there is a Kel-Tec P32 in my left-front jacket pocket. When a sweater-vest can be worn, there is either a S&W 642 or Colt SF-VI in a belt holster. In warm weather, there is often a Taurus PT111 in a fanny pack (and sometimes one of my snub-nosed .38's occupies that space). When commuting to and from work, there is a Taurus 85 in my briefcase. I practice with all of them. The one-gun-for-all-circumstances may work for some people, but it is not practical for me.

I found 1 carry gun that I like (KelTec PF-9), I verified its reliability, and I carry it. The nature of the gun is such that I see no reason to switch it out -- it is powerful enough, and concealable enough, so that it pretty much covers all bases. Where I live there is little need to do a seasonal switch and I don't frequent those places where people feel the need to pack heavier.

I don't switch because I don't have to switch, there's nothing to be gained by switching.

I agree with BillCA pick it and stick with it I carry a Sig226/.40 strong side OWB in a Bianchi Mod. 82 holster and a S&W 340PD .357 in my RF pocket
