Who should a business sell a handgun to?

Maybe he was in there earlier and checked the guns out then realized he left his wallet at home/ lost his credit card/whatever. When you come back all you need to do then is just pick the guns up.

In fact I do all my shopping similarly. Any research that needs to be done is done online beforehand. So once I walk in the shop, I just point to the thing I want, say "Gimme that one" and lay the money on the counter. No need for haggling or fondling the goods.

As for why 4 Glocks. Maybe he's a Glock fan.

Had he refused to sell "to the hispanic gang looking dude", the business could have been sued for violation of the EEOC regulations.

I think you're referring to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In any event, any merchant can refuse any transaction to anyone if they don't feel comfortable with it. Good example was the drunk guy wanting to buy a gun or refusing to sell car to someone who hauls in 50K in a suitcase. Doesn't matter if the guy was white, brown, or green.

4 guns in one transaction is out of the ordinary and possibly suspicious though not illegal. It's up to the merchant whether or not he refuses the sale, phone the ATF immediately, or just sell/process the transaction.

Agree

I live in TX also and I too have seen questionable transactions. I have seen gun sales to individuals who appeared to be possible illegals. Not being racist here, just realistic. By possible illegals I refer to style of dress and fact that individual could not speak a word of English (just indicators). The number of guns and the fact that no obvious inspection took place would have made me suspicious also. I think the OP did a good thing.

I would have called out the dealer... Good on you for telling your neighbors son but maybe you should contact the local pd? Those guns are definitely going to Mexico to participate in some drug wars...

Agreed, certainly a possibility.

You talking new or used? New guns at a shop yeah, they aren't likely to come down and it's reasonable to assume a new pistol will check out. Pawn shops sell used guns. You're going to get bit if you buy used without even looking them over. Friendly advice;)

I was in a pawn shop a few weeks ago looking at handguns. A hispanic dude comes in, looks in the counter and tells the clerk that he wants the four Glocks he has in the showcase. He didn't take the time to look at them. He didn't even bother to ask how much they were. He just said that he wanted to buy all of them.

Sounds like a customer who was there previously, looked at the guns, maybe negotiated a price, left to go get money, then returned to make the purchase. We did lots of deals just like that on virtually every type of merchandise we sold through our pawn shops.

I don't know if anything will come of it, but with the amount of weapons that are crossing the border there should be some people considering how to slow it down.

By "some people" you mean those people who are in business to sell things like guns, that they should be the ones responsible for stopping an illegal activity in another country and do so at their own expense of lost revenues by foregoing completely legal activity in our country? That does seem to be quite the undue burden being placed on a small business owner or even chain store.

I did get the license number of the pickup truck he was driving, and I gave it to my neighbor's son who is an FBI agent.

If you were truly concerned, why did you make a backdoor report to the FBI by informing your neighbor's son? Why didn't you call the ATFE and make a formal report?

ATF provides the form 4473, upon request, in Spanish and other languages for qualified transferees who do not speak english, so, the ATF does not find this suspicious.

'Cause wouldn't a formal report contain personal information? Gangs have been known to kill on informers just to set examples, eh?

I'm going to the shop to look for a deal on an older 10/22. I'll see the pawnbroker and ask him about it.

I think the problem here is that GaryH does not understand the legal environment in the US. If you are going to call out a minority on something you better have firm ground to stand on. If it was a neo-nazi, no problem legally. In both cases you have to worry about the non-legal retribution though.

Although accessible to organized crime, FBI records are a little bit better sheltered than local police reports(which are usually released publicly when processed)

I am not sure he filled out paperwork. I left before the transaction was completed, but I would bet the papers were filed. I have bought guns there and filled out paperwork. My question is why anyone would not be suspicious of someone, Mexican...black...asian....white....or whatever.... buying guns in that quantity without inspecting them first given the problem there seems to be with US purchased guns ending up in the hands of the drug cartels.

You left before it was completed? Around here, the 4473 is on the counter in moments of saying "I'll take it". How could you be there for the part of the story you posted without seeing the form come out too? Unless you ran for the door immediately.

Well living in the alien occupied state of Az a different out look.

I don't care if the people of any foreign country be it Syria, Egypt, or Mexico have a government that is unable or unwilling to enforce the laws and contol organised crime or terrorist. So if some alien wants come here and buy every gun in a store and take them back to their country for what ever purpose. So be it. It may actually be for self defense because they have no other choice.

January 17, 2012: I looked at about a dozen rifles in a local pawn shop. Found three I really liked. Dickered around a little bit and made a deal to pick them up on the first of Feb if they still had them.

February 1, 2012: I went in to the pawn shop, picked out the three rifles I had chosen earlier, filled out the paperwork, paid cash and left. (I did not realize how busy pawn shops are on the first of the month!)

It was kind strange: A bald headed guy (Skin Head ?) walked in, pointed to three rifles, paid cash and left the store. All three of the rifles were the same caliber.

Missouri has a few violent cases of racism and more than our fair share of nutz who think the government should be over thrown. Because these groups are predominantly white, and everyone knows about skin heads, should I have been denied or reported?

Off topic, sorry.
We call the first weekday of the month "Mother's Day" because that's when the wellfare checks/direct deposits arrive and our pawn shops fill up with pawn redeemers. It can get crazy.
