Who shoots a 6mm at 1K?

I got lucky and he happened to have one on the shelf.....Had it in a week. Give him a call and see what he's got lying around. Some of his inventory isn't listed on his web site.....If you go the 6XC route let me now. I've got some loads worked up with H4350 and some heavy bullets that might come in handy for you....Specific load data for the 6XC is very difficult to find online that's for sure.

Given the competitive use of the round, guess that doesn't surprise me... Thanks for the generous offer, I'll be sure to take you up on it.

Is the 115 DTAC as prevalent as the 162 Amax is to us 7mm shooters?

Is that a Choate Sniper you modded there? Looks like one, but with a modified forend.

I would say the 115 DTAC's are probably the most commonly used bullet for >600 yard shooting....but I'm just saying that based on what I've read. The time I shot @ 800 yards at a private range the owner was shooting a 6 BRDX with the 115's.....Quite impressive accuracy that's for sure. But I'm shooting the 105-107 grain bullets by Hornady and Sierra. I can't afford those super duper bullets.....

Yes the stock is a Choate but it's an ultimate varmint....but I haven't done anything to it except take the bipod adapter off the fore end. No use for that when shooting off a front rest. The stock in not ideal but I was on a strict budget and it was the only stock that fit most of my needs.....It's ok for what it is.

As I mentioned in #13, I was really surprised that the DTAC's from Sierra aren't any more than the "regular" SMK's I buy- at $140/500 that's $28 box (100) which is actually less than I just paid from Powder Valley for 140's for the .260 at $31.00 box. Go figure...

We have a Choate Tactical...heavy, but works well. Choates sometimes have haters, but Russell Simmonds won the F-Class World Championship a few years back with the Sniper stock. 'Nuff said far as I'm concerned.

BartB,
With the modern metalurgy, are the 6.5-284 still that hard on barrels?

I have been slightly more than toying with building a 6.5mm Rem Mag for a target rifle, but don't want to burn through barrels that quickly!!

Yes. 6.5x284 barrels last 600 to 800 rounds for those demanding and getting best accuracy.

And the 6.5 Rem Mag will have less as it burns more powder. It'll be harder to shoot accurately as its got more recoil while the bullet goes through the barrel.

Belted cases have been losing popularity for competition as they're too difficult to reload for best accuracy. Rimless cases with the same capacity are the better choice.

So I'm watching a show featuring a LR tourney sponsored by GAP, and one of their rifles is chambered in 6mm Creedmore...

6mm Creedmore?

We've all heard of the 6.5, but I guess I've been behind the times never having heard of this necked-down 6.5 case. According to this, of the top 50 shooters, a whopping 30% were shooting the 6 Creedmore this year, compared to 6% with the 6XC and 4% with the Dasher.

Comparison is the same as comparing the PPC cousins. One's 22 and the other 24. As well as identical twins jointly winning the Miss America stint. People have emotional favorites better than best performers; more often than we think.

I think you hit the nail on the head. When you look at "average finish", the 6x47 placed better on average than 6XC, which placed better than the 6 Creedmore.

I'm sure much of it's hair-splitting. Hadn't heard of necking down the Creedmore before, but sure seemed like an easy, and obvious thing to do.
