Who makes the HOTTEST 357 magnum rounds>

Hornady, Buffalo Bore, Speer, Garret,


I am interested in shooting the hottest rounds available anyone have any suggestions ? :)
 
Hottest I've chrono'ed is Buffalo Bore, and I can say they hold up to their claims.

I have heard underwood is also very hot but I've never put any through a barrel.

Now for the post with the top half of his gun in Kansas and he was in Idaho shooting it at the time....ooops.

My brother had some handloads from a friend that clocked 1800 fps with a 125 gr bullet. They were not fun to shoot and I know they weren't the hottest ;loads around. .
 
Hornady's Leverevolution stuff in 140 grain packed quite a punch on both ends when I fired it out of my 6" 586.
 
Check out Underwood Ammo. They rule the hot 10mm crown. There Ballistic info is conservative. Most are getting faster numbers than printed.
 
Hornady Superformance .357 are pretty darn hot. watched a buddy of mine fire a few from his lever action rifle and was amazed...some factory ammo he was shooting was kickin a little bit of dirt up each shot, the Superformance was kickin rocks and chunks of dirt up over the burm at 30 yards. Not sure if these can be used in a handgun tho.
 
Keep a close eye in your forcing cone. Those hot loads will erode, harden and eventually crack the forcing cone if you shoot enough of them and it doesn't take as long as you might think. I say this based on personal experience. I used to love hot loads but they are very hard on your barrel. Stick to 140 to 158 gr. bullets and your gun will hold up much longer.
 
Hottest .357 Magnum ammo.

Buffalo Bore, Double Tap, Underwood. If you can handload try 14.5Gr. of 2400 with a 158Gr. LSWC and a CCI primer.

Can't answer for the OP, but when it comes to hiking the hotter the better (staying in spec). I hike in Wolf, black bear, Grizzly, and Cougar country on a regular basis. I normally don't recommend a 357, but my 44 is getting too heavy for me with with multiple injuries. I've just started packing a 357 and I prefer 158 grs. with 14.5 AA#9. This will float a 158 through the air about 1400-1450 fps from a 6" 357. I would love to go beyond, but that would take me out of SAAMI spec.

This is my hottest load. Although, I do have some 125s loaded to 1750 fps with 18.6 grns of AA#9. Still in spec with the Hornady reload manual.
One of the reasons I prefer this powder... I like Hornady bullets and in my 4th edition Hornady reload manual this powder is king.
 
I once knew I guy who claimed he had the hottest .357 Magnum. After he quit the business his new nickname was, 3 Fingers Louie. :D
