My High Standard Trophy and Victor both have excellent adjustable 2 stage triggers. My Hammerli 280 has a very nice single stage trigger. Several of my Smith K frame revolvers have excellent DA triggers. My Python has a very good SA trigger but the double action has a click in it that I find mildly objectionable. But really any good Free pistol tends to have a superb Trigger.

Seems the s&w has the best out of box trigger, clean crisp SNAP, On another note Rugger with a little polishing not bad attall Looks like the Smiths have it PS haven't shot a Colt in a long time I don;t recall the trigger

reeducation

Larvatus/Michael:
One technique - which requires reeducating the trigger finger - is to let the finger relax so that it curls into a rest position. That is enough.
I prefer two-stage triggers on repeaters, as a way of avoiding such reeducation.

In a practical sense, the technique is applicable only to the single shot Free pistol.

Any single stage trigger tuned for minimum takeup is liable to inadvertent presetting by the trigger finger coming in contact with it. The double stage mechanism factors out this possibility.

All of the Free pistols that I have used - Pardini, Hammerli, and TOZ - had set triggers.

My Wilson Combat UT-15 has a really nice trigger but it's actually a precision JP trigger/hammer, tuned to a crisp 3-3.5 pound trigger pull.

best overall trigger: Colt 1911A1 trigger
best DA/SA trigger: Sig's SRT
best "DAO" trigger: Colt Python
best striker fired trigger: I got to admit, the XD's have a better trigger than my Walther :o

The 1911 trigger is split between as many as makers as seems possible in one poll. After all, even S&W makes 1911s these days.

SAO--tuned 1911
DA/SA--SIG
DAO--Colt Python
Striker fired--tuned M&P

Taurus is fourth in prefernce thus far. Thats quite something since it is more that Ruger and some other well know guns.

STI - How can you not have them on the list? Their triggers are one of the things they are known for, in addition to building some of the sweetest 1911s out their today.

best overall trigger: a good 1911 trigger

A huge +1 from me. As for double action, a good older model Smith and Wesson revolver is probably the best. I voted Colt because that is the maker of my 1911, and it has a sweet trigger.
