Who makes new full size .22 single-shot rifles?

I'm looking for single-shot rifles in .22 LR,,,
Let's not mention the "Annie" rifles,,,
They are way too expensive.

Let's also bypass the Crickett, Keystone, Savage Rascal, and Henry Mini-Bolt,,,
This rifle is for an adult so it must be full size.

New and Full-Size are the two criteria.

I have found these rifles:
Bolt-Action - Savage Mark I FVT
Bolt-Action - Savage Mark I G
Break-open - H&R Sportster
Break-open - Rossi (.22 seems available only in sets with centerfire barrel)

I have been all over the Henry, Marlin, Mossberg, Remington, & Winchester websites,,,
I'm wondering if there isn't a manufacturer out there that I have missed,,,
I'm ready to spend money but I want to ensure I've seen everything.

I appreciate your help here good folk.

Many options

The state requires us to teach with single-shot rifles, in youth size and adult size. The last rifles I have bought for our conservation group, came from Marlin and Savage. Both have given us good performance and pricing was reasonable. One advantage to a single-shot, is that you can shoot the shorts and longs as well as the LR. On the higher end, there is always the TC G-2.

I would suggest the MARK I G or GY, only because these come with Accu-triggers. .... :)

Good luck and;

Hello Gentlemen,,,

Hello SerenityNetworks:

Would you consider a bolt action with a single shot adapter?
If so, a CZ 452 might work for you.

You've been peeking into my gun cabinet,,, ;)
That 452 Trainer is my personal rifle,,,
I received the SS adaptor last week.

Hello Pahoo:

I got all excited for a moment,,,
You mentioned Marlin so I revisited their website,,,
The Model XT-22 does have two versions that are single-shot,,,
But unfortunately for me they are youth models and only 33" in total length.

Was there another Marlin single-shot that I am missing?

The Savage Mark I G looks great,,,
I wonder why it's a wee bit more than the Mark II G,,,
One would think that a single-shot would be less than a repeater.

If I'm reading the Savage website correctly,,,
Their Mark II F is the exact same rifle,,,
But with a cheaper plastic stock.

I Googled around and found a single-shot adaptor,,,
They are made by an Australian firm,,,
I e-mailed for a price.

Hello std7mag:

Have you ever heard of Anshutz????

Yes sir, I have,,,
I referred to them as Annie's,,,
Nice rifles but wrong application and way too expensive.

Hello again SerenityNetworks:

I Googled that Badger,,,
That's one cute little rifle,,,
But way too short for an adult.

I'm glad you mentioned it though,,,
I saw their page for the Double-Badger,,,
That's a heckuva lot cheaper than the Savage/Stevens Model 42.

I'm somewhat amazed though,,,
I certainly thought there would be more of a selection.

Thanks for the hints,,,

Sorry, I never bothered to look at the length of the Badger, as all I've ever had an interest in is the Double Badger. I'm glad you saw it. I didn't mention it because I didn't think it would meet your requirements. If an O/U will work for you then it might be a consideration. In the personal reviews I've seen, people seem to like them and are happy with the accuracy. IMHO they would make a great trainer.

Must be single-shot ???

I meant to ask if there is a reason or a requirement that you have to use a single-shot. One of my Savage bench rifles, has a five shot magazine but I only load it as a single-shot with no problems. I also made my own insert adaptor and later decided I really did not need it. .. .... ;)

The Model XT-22 does have two versions that are single-shot,,,
But unfortunately for me they are youth models and only 33" in total length.
I'm not sure what adult model we have but it's been around for about 15-yrs and it might just be one of the youths. ....
What about a tube feed XT ???

If you can waive the "new" requirement, you can't beat a Remington 510, 580 or a Winchester 67. If you look around, you can find them in like-new condition and usually at a reasonable price.

Let me just mention that if you were to get a youth gun instead, adding a nice Pachmayr or similar slip-on-pad makes it into an adult gun nicely....with the added likely bonus of a short handy 16" bbl, since for some reason youth guns typically have 16s and adult rifles typically have longer ones.

Don't put down a single shot especially for teaching . It sets up your mind properly -' I've got only one shot I have to make it count '
rather than -' If I miss the first I'll get it with the second or third '.

falling block/rolling block?

I'm thinking that one of the import folks, Navy Arms, maybe or similar, make an external hammer, block type action, but they are sort of high priced.

Heavy barrel, two piece sharps/browning single shot stock and forearm. One of those with a Malcolm type scope would be interesting.

Hello again Pahoo,,,

I meant to ask if there is a reason or a requirement that you have to use a single-shot.

Well, beside the fact that I really like single-shot rifles,,,
The son of my co-worker has joined a youth shooting club,,,
They require using a single-shot rifle for all of their new members.

Anyways I'm just helping him discover all of the options out there.

His son is a very tall and lanky 12 year old,,,
The typical youth size rifle doesn't fit him at all.

I took him out to the range and had him fire my single-shots,,,
He liked my Henry Acu-Bolt and did very well with it,,,
But unfortunately it has been discontinued,,,
It's not on their website anymore.

He also did well with my H&R Sportster,,,
But the break-open action doesn't lend well to bench or prone shooting.

Just for grins we also had him try my Crickett,,,
As you can imagine that didn't work well.

As for the Stevens Favorite,,,
The link says "Not available at this time".

So far the Savage Mark I G seems to be the only full-size bolt-action out there,,,
Or at the very least it's the only one I can find on any website,,,
Single-shots aren't as popular as they once were.

I found a place that sells a single-shot adaptor for the Savage Mark II rifles,,,
My friend is going to ask the program director if this will be okay,,,
I can't see why they wouldn't allow it as an option,,,
But I don't run their club.

I have mentioned we could find something real nice on the used market,,,
Right now there is a Winchester Model 67 at The Evil Pawn Shop,,,
But he's adamant about wanting a brand new rifle for his boy.

I'm just trying to ensure I've discovered all the options,,,
In the meantime I'm lending him my Acu-bolt,,,
That will get him shooting while we search.

Later my friends,,,

The Savage Rascal is a good single shot but it only comes with a youth sized stock. The Cricket is also only sold in youth sizes but they offer adult sized stocks for around $50. The Cricket is a good shooting rifle and well worth the 150 bux they sell for.

CZ makes excellent bolt action 22s. They also make a magazine block for them. They are sold to block the magazine wells for their youth models, but I am pretty sure they will work on the man-size models too.

If the modification needs to be permanent just accra-glas the block into the well or cross pin it in.
Problem solved

Well, FWIW, the CZ Scout splits the difference between a full size & youth model

I have one and have taken squirrels w/ it myself, as well as trained my 10-yr old nephew on it.

The Scout comes w/ a single-shot adapter (detachable), which is perfect for training the youngsters, but later on it will allow you to use a 5- or 10-shot magazine as the kids progress in demonstrating safety in handling the rifle and in their marksmanship skills.
