Who makes a .308 or .30-06 boltgun with a detachable 10rd mag?

Savage Short Action w/ Detachable Mag

I haven't personally done this, but it was posted on another board that it is resonably easy, without special tools, to modify a Metric FAL mag to work in the Savage Short Action rifles that use detachable box magazines. As long as the mag fits in the well I can believe this, since all that is needed is to cut a slot in the side of the mag at the correct location to engage the magazine catch lever. I bought a Savage 11FC with this in mind but haven't gotten around to it, and have kind of lost interest in it.

I tend to agree that a hi-cap bolt gun is of questionable use to a lone fighter. Shoot and scoot is the correct game plan if you don't have back-up. The Enfields were designed for coordinated high intensity vollies during trench warfare, not for sniping. If you think that you will need to engage lots of targets in a short amount of time, by yourself, get a semi-auto in .223, lots of spare mags, a flak-jacket, kevlar helmet, and learn how to pray.

Unintended consequences

Whoa, that Remington slidegun looks great, if 10rd mags are available. It seems to take the same mags as the semi-auto and probably has a similar internal mechanism, so given all the harassment of "black rifle owners" people would naturally gravitate to nicer looking choices.

Of course, that means switching from 7.62x39 to .30-06 or similar...I'm sure that's just what the Brady Bunch wanted
Yep, after my Bushmaster went into exile in NV, I bought the much more powerful 7600 .308 and a bunch of 10 round mags. I figure it will be awhile before they get around to banning pump-actions. Still haven't shot the thing.

Clark's Custom Guns has a package whereby he tunes up a Marlin .45-70 levergun, the 18" barrel version with the 4-rd mag tube. He extends the tube to five rounds (six with the one up the pipe, not too bad) and pretties it up a bit. It's $1400 based on a brand new gun he supplies.

Oh ya, one more detail: he claims they ship capable of MOA :D.

My, that certainly has some appeal :D.

You could really shake things up at a "big bore" rifle event :D. At least out to 200 to 300 yards, after that the poor aerodynamics would kill ya. But still, inside that, it'd be like "crosswind, who gives a damn, I'm shooting a 405grain .45!" :D.

Enfield #4 Mk II sporter

If it was good enough for Crocodile Dundee it's good enough for the rest of us. I'd say he knew a thing or two about long range out back tactical survival.

:D The French Government makes two, the FR-F1 and FR-F2. Both can do MOA and have 10 round DM's. Problem is they are hard to find and if you do find one, it will cost several times what a Steyr Scout costs :(
