Who is the Greatest 1911 Gunsmith??

Wow! I thought the average turn time for some of the well known names mentioned here was measured in years. That's great. Mark IV if you don't mind my asking what did you have done?
Terry did a "Reliability Package" and a trigger job, with a Videki trigger, at a crisp 3.5 lbs.

This work has made all the difference in the "shootability" of this gun.

Richard (or Anyone Else),

Does anyone have contact information for Marianne Carniak, the gunsmith Richard mentioned earlier in this thread?

I'm unfamiliar with her work, but I'd love to get her in the running when I start calling the various gunsmiths you've recommended.

Does anyone else have any experience with her?

Take a look at www.tenring.com

Alex Hamilton has been at it since the 60s-past president of American Pistolsmith's Guild, Past Winner of Pistolsmith of the year. He's in San Antonio.
Heck of a good guy too.

sorry to join the party so late, but I gotta speak up for the best 1911 smith- CT Brian www.ctbrian.com

CT (Tim) is an all around good guy who builds the very best 1911 style pistol that can be had. I'm fortunate enough to own a couple of his masterpieces, heck you can read about my Commander in The Keen Report at his site. Make sure to take a look at one of the finest small CCWs you can own, the Sidewinder.

What makes a Brian pistol the best? Is it the ability to blend art with function? Or is it the details he attends to that most never notice? While those are all well and good, the secret to his success is building pistols while listening to one of the greatest rock bands ever- Led Zeppelin! ;f

Hey BK40,

Thanks for the suggestion of C.T. Bryan.

Do you have any photos of the guns he built for you that you could post?

Greetings,
WITHOUT question, the best 1911 pistolsmith is Richard Heinie. His attention to detail, creative innovations, and professional business practices, all make him THE 1911 MAN.
Gun people are generally not fools, and those-in-the-know WILL wait 7+ years to have Mr. Heinie build them their dream gun.

I spoke to Maryann's husband and he has a couple of guns for sale. You can find find them on Guns America under 1911 variants (45 wad cutter gun). You can click on the contact and it will give you their email address. I spoke to Mr. Carnaik for quite a while and I was very impressed. He is quite a bullseye shooter and he shoots his own guns in competition. He also sells his guns to other bullseye shooter. I feel if you can make a gun good enough for shooting Bullseye than you must know what your doing. By the way he has a couple guns that are almost finished and are very reasonable $900 - $1200.00. Hope this helps.

David,

Thank you for the information, but what I need is the contact information for Marianne Carniak.

Could someone please provide that to me?

Richard Niemer is the pistolsmith at Olympic Arms in Washington. He also makes custom pistols. He was one of the key developers behind the Detonics matchmaster and its double recoil spring.
He does not publish his services but is well known to many in the smith community...
there is another pistolsmith forum... pistolsmith.com
