Who here has lost someone to gun violence, or been shot themselves?

That's one reason I wear my vest to the range...

Thanks for the candid replies guys, it's very informative. You guys are exactly the kind of people the MMM takes advantage of. Do any of you feel that the pro-gun groups have taken advantage of you in any way?

Bluesman, point noted, I will rephrase:

Has anyone here ever been harmed by a person weilding a gun, or by themselves with a firearm? Does anyone know anyone who has?

Just wanted to relate only a few stories:

A good friend of ours had crossed the line and messed with another man's wife. The man was a wealthy man, a bunch of years older than his pretty young wife...wife overheard "hubby" one night "hire" some guys from the Mexican Mafia. She warned our friend, friend asked my roommate and I to help watch his place. We all worked different shifts so we could park our car and sleep in the car while watching his place.
After three weeks, we were tired, we had used telltales on the doors and windows but our friend didn't check for the telltales to warn him that someone had gotten into his house.
They found his grey matter spread on the wall and ceiling...results of shotgun blasts to the head.
Cops figured two guys with sawed off shotguns.

Second incident...some five years ago, my wife's uncle had a little mom and pop store that he and his wife ran for 20 years...everybody in the neighborhood knew them as kind folks who extended credit to folks in need. Their place didn't get robbed for all that time.
One night, two BG's came in, pistol whipped uncle...he went into a coma for three weeks and died from hemmoraging.

For those of you readers...I think I posted about 10 more real stories in TFL.

About 14 years ago, whacko with a grudge and member of my church, shot and killed one of the church's pastor and deacon. Guess what, only thing that stopped him from doing more was a member in the church who happened to be an L.A. Sherrif's Deputy who was armed uring the worship service. None of the other members of the church including myself were armed because we were obeying the law. So much for average citizens not needing guns. We just happened to be lucky enough at that time that we had such a large congregation that one member just happened to be a LEO. A smaller church might not have been so fortunate and many more people would likely have been killed.

Well, I have quite a few stories and I'll spare you most of them.

A couple of friends and I were driving down a mountain trail in Guatemala around 86 when a couple of rebel throwbacks started taking potshots. I was driving and the kid in the front passenger side had his head taken off. I'm assuming it was a .223 or 7.62, not sure, but there wasn't much left. My buddies in back got sprayed with the debris. Really freaked them out a long time.

I've taken one in the leg from a 9mm, still have a .22 in my shoulder and have 2 or 3 graze scars from a run-in in Sudan in 94 from a high among a few other wounds. My girlfriend likes to call me her "plastic boyfriend" because of all the extra parts and scar tissue.

One other story is my best friends mom was killed by her live in who then killed himself. We discovered the bodies which had been in the cabin for 2 weeks decomposing.

When I was in high school, I was mugged by two guys, but they didn't have guns. We'll call that one "fist violence." One of the guys killed a guard in jail by choking him with a sock; I guess we'd better outlaw socks due to that senseless sock violence.

I haven't lost anyone close to me to guns. I have lost some old rock and roll buddies to drugs...oh, no, wait...drugs are illegal! They must be alive, then. I guess I'll go call them.
