Who else is a Left-handed... and what do you shoot?

I am a southpaw and I shoot whatever I can get my hands on.

Amongst my handguns my Glock 35 is the gun I can get out of a holster and fire in less than a second, but my accuracy is better with my CZ75 ST IPSC so that is the gun I use for competition, it has ambidextrous safety.

The rifles I shoot most are my H&K 630 semiauto and my bolt action Winchester m/70 30-06 with a right hand action. I have kept the gun and learnt to shoot it with a pretty fast second shot should it be needed. The gun is a real tightgrouper, from bench less than 1/4" 3-shots at 100 yards. I will never get rid of that rifle.

I carry, and prefer, SIG Sauer pistols first and foremost, but I'll shoot just about anything I can get my hand around.

Im right handed but since my right eye vision is weak as hell and uncorrectable so I learned to shoot left handed. Started out with revolvers but now have a Taurus PT 100AFS .40 cal and a Glock 19 9MM. The Taurus has the Ambi safety/decocker which works fine. Also learned how to use my index finger to disengage the slide lock on the glock and my middle finger to eject the mag. Either way both are easy to use left handed. Find a gun that you like and practice using your index and middle finger for working the actions. Most pistols have the ability to change the mag release to either side. Good luck and good shooting!

I'm a lefty...

...and have repeatedly distressed my disappointment that Springfield and Kimber consider a saftey I can use a custom feature, whereas it's standard on many low end clones.

Anyway, about slide releases. Slide releases are traditionally on the left side of the frame, right? Okay, unless most people have thumbs a lot longer than me, there's no way you could reach that with a firing grip. I, however, can reach it with my left index finger easily, just as I can easily reach the mag release with said finger.

If the gun's only saftey is a decocker, ala Sig P226, I see no point in ambi controls. I can't imagine having to do a "combat decock" under stress, so it's a moot point, as far as I'm concerned.

Guns I think are good for lefties:

1911s with ambi safties-
Springfield XP series-
Glocks-
Rugers-
CZ 85-
Beretta 92/96-
Taurus PT92/100-

...And just about any double action only auto. No saftey, no problem.

My guns are listed below. I shoot shoulder fired guns left handed, and I shoot pistols and revolvers right handed. I use my left eye for shotguns/rifles, and my right eye for pistols/revolvers. It has never been a problem. Best -

Im a leftey

However when my father was teaching me to shoot as a child he discovered that my strong eye was in the right side of my head .
So he explained that most firearms are built for right-handed shooters and that it would take some practice but if I tried I could shoot anything I wanted. Today I am now 30 and shoot everything right handed even bows. I do all of my tasks at work left handed .
Anyone can adapt if they have the will and desire to do so It may be fusterating at first but Practice will pay off . I have recentley started to try to train myself to shoot left handed and am making progress despite feeling unnatural after 25 years of shooting rigtht-handed. Practice Practice Practice!!

i shoot a para p-16 ltd. in ipsc, and carry a beretta elite II 9mm or a springfield 1911 w/ ambi's for duty weapons. springfield champion or para p-12 ;45 off duty.

... bersa 380 or a taurus m-85 38 spl. while i'm sleeping or watching hockey :)

i saw that dealer's warehouse has a ambi slide stop out for a 1911- looks pretty slick. has anyone tried this? please email me with info.

I have a good friend that is a lefty and he likes his sig 228, his springfield loaded model 1911, and his HK USP 40.
