thanks, i was have heard about the lowers that used M3 mags and would prefer to go that route. i wasnt really impressed with the look of the Oly 45 acp mags. 18 ctg capacity and they look like a single stack from the length.
The only problem I had with the one olympic I have owned was the magwell was a little deep so I would have to apply a bit of force to get my pmags to lock.
I would buy one for plinking or to carry in a truck or something, but I'd stay away from them if I planned to do any serious shooting or building onto the platform. It is common knowledge in the AR community that the quality control and tolerances are not that great on more than a few OA rifles. That's not to say they are all junk, but you run a higher risk and you get what you pay for.
If I were to buy an entry level AR, I;d look at Doublestar before Olympic. Not that they are great, but I think they are a little better.
Whomever said that Mega is a lot better than Olympic just made the understatement of the year. Mega is top of the line IMO. I just used one of their billet lowers on my last build, and it's a work of art. Great stuff, but can be hard to get.
I owned a Plinker Plus a few years ago and put thousands of trouble free rounds down range. I honestly can't remember a single malfunction that I would attribute to the rifle. I am a fan of the brand and would not hesitate to buy another.
I've had the opportunity to shoot a bunch of different Oly models and I like them fine. Not a huge fan but not a hater. Seemed average to me but not bad. My good friend who is a local cop (we are local to Oly arms) recently told me they are highly regarded in his department. He reports that the accuracy is crazy good. Those guys are huge into AR's. That can't be a bad endorsement. I don't think i'd hesitate to buy one if a mid priced AR was at the top of my want list. But i'm having too much fun with hunting rifles right now lol. Also one of the major advantages of Oly arms is they really do offer lot's of different calibers in an AR platform for a reasonable price. I think their .25 wssm would be a nice little deer rifle.
