Wasn't it Barney Fife who only was allowed to carry one bullet?
My all-time favorite crime show is The Wire. The focus, of course, was not shootouts. It may not follow police procedure accurately -- I'm not an officer, so I wouldn't know -- but it was well-acted.
A cable station has been rerunning Miami Vice and while nothing they do could remotely follow real police procedure, it sure is a trip in the WABAC machine. Watching the two female officers heading to a crime or chasing bad guys in long skirts and heels is hilarious, as are the clothes Crockett wears and the sawed-off shotgun Tubbs carries, in violation, I'm sure, of the rules of every police department in the country.
In one of the episodes I watched last week, one of the secondary characters is chasing a baddie into a building. He fires one round and the gun goes to slide lock while he continues firing. Kudos to the sound effects tech ...
