Which Sig is the perfect platform for the .357 SIG?

Gremlin, I am partial to the larger frame of the 226, besides, it sounds like you all ready made up your mind. aim small.

I'd also add the P239. Great weapon, and extremely accurate! Definitely worth a try, but make sure you handle it with a loaded magazine for realistic balance.

357sig

I have a 229, great weapon..... but, if i could find an H&K compact in 357sig, to me that would be one excellent ccw weapon of choice.

Sure wouldn't want to trade a SIG trigger for an H&K one...it's the sole reason I don't own any H&K pistols.

In some respects, they are "squishier" than Tupperguns, and that's saying a lot.

I have the 226 and 229 in 357 SIG, and both are excellent guns for this cartridge. I shot my 229 for the 1st time in a few months the other night, and had forgotten just how manageable the gun was. It's much more pleasureable for me to shoot than, say, my Glock 32. With the 226, you'll find it just as accurate and a little softer recoiling. Trigger pull feels exactly the same to my hand. Honestly, with the excllent ergonomics of SIG pistols, either the 226 or 229 is easily controlled. I've looked at the 239's seriously, but they are just way too small for my hand - can't even get my pinky on but abt 1/2 way if I really squeeze my fingers together.

Also, tho full size, the 226 is not that difficult to conceal if you ever DID want to carry it. Including the beavertail on my Kimber Pro, the 226 is only abt 1/2 inch longer, and it has the thin profile of the 220. I had a SigPro in .40 that was a really accurate gun, but neither of the interchangeable grips really fit me very well, so I traded it for the Glock 32.

Thanks for all of the replies.

As a post script, I purchased a NIB P226 for just under $700.

With Speer Lawman 125gr ammo it is the most accurate weapon in my collection. Recoil is exceptionally light when compared to my HK USPc 40 or my Beretta Cougar 8045; it puts me more in mind of a 1911 with good ammo--although it's noticeably snappier than any +P 9mm. I love this gun.

It's loud but it is not a recoil monster; follow up shots come easily and it's run through several hundred rounds without a hitch. Not a single failure to feed or fire.

The first magazine out of the box put 10 shots into an area the size of my fist at 15 yards. The only bad performance (from an accuracy standpoint) came with Winchester ammo: the gun really likes Speer Gold Dots or Lawman ammo. I haven't seen a difference in the accuracy with either one (and the Lawman ammo can be found on the shelf for $12/50 or less).

I feel like I made the right choice for my intended purpose--it makes a GREAT range gun with some zip.

Just some thoughts

The P229 is a redesigned P228, in that sense it's not specifically desgined as platform for either .40 or 357SIG. This doesn't mean it doesn work, but it does mean that it's no different from the P226 in .40 and 357SIG. In both cases SIG Sauer took existing platform and beefed them up to handle faster and higher pressure calibers. A P226 in .40/357SIG has a heavier stainless slide than a 9mm P226, just like the P229 has a heavier stainless slide compared to a P228.

I can't think of a batter alloy frame compact that a P229 or a full size than a P226. It's really hard not to like a P226 .40/357SIG

If you own a sig pro then you're right to be proud of it. No one likes to have their decisions called into question. Don't flame me for thinking differently from you, but the sig pro doesn't live up to the Classic line. SIG Sauer marketed the sig pro as an answer to Glock's phenomenal popularity among LE agencies, and it failed at that. The sig pro was supposed to be a simpler mechanism, something along the lines of a Glock, and it failed at that. The modular design of the sig pro is in no way shape or form anything like the of "anyone can fix it" design of a Glock. Sales of the sig pro have been way below expectations. The trigger is mushy and lacks the crisp let off of a P229 or a P226. SIG Sauer has seen its market share decline year after year, if they want to stay afloat they better do much better than the sig pro. Like I said, if you got one, enjoy it, they're very reliable and accurate, but they're not SIG Sauer's ballyhooed market salvation.
