i love my 870's, that said, i really like my saiga 12. super reliable and designed for fighting. i also have a high standard m10 that i love. i guess it's an aquired taste.

I am a new shotgunner at 65 years old (don't laugh-lol), and I am real pleased with my Mossberg 500. I know that the Remington 870 is a wonderful gun, and I'd like to have one. I bought the Mossberg because I thought that it offered more extra features for the money. I know I will never wear it out, even if it does have an alluminum alloy receiver-ha.
 
how about "and" instead of "or"?

I have the moss., the spas, AND quite a few others. Id hate to try to decide which ones I could do without :confused: I even enjoy 2 mossberg bolt actions that I picked up.

The 500

Don't have a lot of experience with shotguns to bring to the table. Had a Mossberg 500 ( 20 ga ). Really like it a lot. Traded it for a Winchester 1300 Defender ( 12 ga ). Liked the Mossberg better for 1 reason. The safety was easier to push off, being on the top vs the trigger guard.
There are almost certainly better shotguns out there, than the Mossberg. But when factoring in cost, I like 'em.
