Which Ruger #1 is this?

I bought it used. No box, paper or rings.

I'm shopping for rings and there are several different varieties available. The scope will either be a Redfield Revolution 3-9X40 or a Leupold VX-1 (same power).

When I look at Ruger's site, it breaks the possibilities down to #1 Standard, 1B, etc.

Depending upon the chambering, it appears to be either a #1S, or a #1H.

AFAIK, Those are the only two red pad 1970's-80's models with both the AH forend & open/iron sights - and also, it doesn't appear to be an early model.

The #1B has a longer, full/beavertail, forend and no sights (IIRC).

You left out the #1A. I have them in .243 Win., 7x57 Mauser and .270 Win. I collect #1's and you are correct on the #1B. I believe there is also a #1AB which is a "B" with 22" barrel but I've never seen one.
My favorites are the #1S models. I have two, both in .300 Win. mag. One is just a plain jane #1 and the other a 200th year of American Liberty gun. For some reason, Ruger has been very stingy with #1 rifles in the "s" model. I like the weight feel and balance of that version better than any of the others except my #1A in 7x57. Those three are keepers.
I wish the OP had stated what cartridge his rifle was chambered to. :(

Your right, of course, Paul (I've even owned 1-A's - DUH ! ).

I guess I had a mind fart - and the .30-06 chambering would make the OP's #1 a Model #1A.

Is it just me? Or is Ruger scaling back on the #1? I was just over at the Ruger site and it looks like the Medium Sporter is listed only in .45-70.

I guess I better start looking for a #1 in .30-06 or .25-06. That one of the rifles that I promised myself I'd have "one of these days", and this might be the time to get it done.

I've been looking for several Ruger firearms. It's not just the #1 in short supply. They must have gotten hit really hard by the recent panic. Good for them. Bad for us.

Heck, I'm still waiting for a ten round mag I ordered in February, for a M1A from SA.

I forget whee I read it but Ruger is apparently going to limited runs. That is certain models and chamberings for a year and then drop those and go to something else. I never did get hold of one of those limited run .35 Whelens and I'm not all that happy about that. I collect #1's as finances allow. I have a few but want more.:D

Looks like a 1A to me. That would have a 22" barrel. The 1S is the medium sporter with a 26" barrel. The 1H is the Tropical in heavy calibers with a 25" barrel. The RSI has a 20" barrel (or is it 18?) and a full, "Mannlicher" style stock. The 1B has a heavy fore end with swivel in the wood.

See pic for comparisons.
