RE, Gunny Hughes, A big magnum is not needed for LR target shooting, and the .260 Rem will serve both purposes just fine.
Use 140-142 gr SMKs, or 140 AMAX for target work, and 95gr VMAX or Sierra 85gr HP "Varminter" for varmints. (I actually use the 140 AMAX for both, although not sold as such, it is devastating on P-Dogs)
With a proper hunting bullet, it is also adequate for any game animal in North America short of big bears.
thank you for all the replies...After reading them and doing some web search I am going to check into the sav.mod.10 carbine....As far as varmint hunting with it,I like the idea of snipeing crows way out there...I have a 22-250 for this as well..But with a good 24 power or higher scope it is a joy to see the feathers fly...And I can still use it for deer hunting out to 500 yards with the correct bullet or a bit farther....Thanks again....John
