Imagine you are going to war and you will fight in all harsh contitions in cold Arctic, hot Sahara and wet jungle in Latin America. Which pistol would you take:
I voted for the G17...but I would want the G30 instead. I would be more comfortable with a .45 caliber. The smaller Glock could also be used for potential "covert" concealed operations...who knows, you may have to ditch the uniform to evade capture, but at least you will still be armed! The smaller G19 is also a good option in 9mm. 9mm ammo is a bit easier to find if you have to "bum" some off a fellow soldier. I don't see the need for a large sidearm. It will be secondary to your main battle rifle and you will already have enough crap to hang off your web gear.
With the Glock you won't have to worry about the elements and it can go without cleaning for extended periouds of time. After carrying Glocks for some time now I feel extemely comfortable with them.
I would go with the Glock 17. I am familiar with it and it is reliable, accurate, and damned near indestructable. Taylors study shows the Glock last forever. Regards, Richard
I'd take the Beretta because it's the standard sidearm of the U.S. military, which means a) ammo availability in the field and b) magazine availability in the field and c) parts availability in the field, although that is somewhat less the case with the Elite II (a superb handgun which I do own, btw).
It's the infamous Irfan and his G17 vs. Beretta 92/Elite/Blah Blah Blah, poll.
Do a search, guys. This Bozo has posted dozens of these silly polls. He's also claimed, at various times, to own one, both or neither of these fine firearms.
I wouldn't use a handgun, I'd use an assult rifle such as a FAL, SAR1, SAR 2, etc. Handguns weren't designed to be used in a war. A BMG would suit me nicely to take out someone named Bin Laden from a half mile away!
