which pistol has the lightest smoothest DA trigger?

The Para LDA is pretty good, but it doesn't feel like a real DA. It has virtually no resistance as the hammer is moved rearward by pulling the trigger and then hits a wall at the break point. It's actually a SA type trigger with a very long "take-up" distance IMO. The break force on my stock LDA is about 4.4#. I've heard they can be lightened further. It is a very easy gun to shoot straight with that trigger system.

Kahr Elites, Glocks and Para LDA's are not true Double Actions in that the trigger does not perform the "Double Actions" of 1) cocking the weapon and 2) firing the weapon. They all rely on slide movement to perform most or all of the mainspring/striker spring cocking.

SIGs have probably the nicest DA pulls (tolerably light and quite smooth) of conventional DA/SA's.

The D-series "slickslide" DAO Berettas use a lighter mainspring than the conventional DA/SA Berettas, which is most of what gives them their phenomenal DA pulls. The Elite/Elite II also uses the D-series mainspring. I'd compare the trigger on my 96D to the best *&* revolvers in my collection; it's that good. It feels like a wheelgun with a PPC-type trigger job.

Suprisingly, DAO Ruger autos tend to have smooth and light DA pulls, too.

Click here to visit a site that has a MS Access Database containing several thousand measured triggerpulls from a guy who does it for a living. The database is dated in Dec 2000, so it is fairly recent information.

I don't have any true DAO pistols that I'd rate the triggers as anything special. OTOH, my Beretta 92F has a very nice DA trigger pull, so I'd have to toss it's hat into the ring. ;)

Suprised no one has mentioned the P99. I think it has a very nice pull in the true double action mode...well it has a nice pull in any of its fireing modes IMO. The trigger pull of my Beretta's and Sigs never really impressed me. They are both smooth enough, but I think a little heavier than they need to be. That is untill I put the DAO spring in my 96fs..lightened it up quite a bit.
Ofcource any time I start thinking a semi-auto has a nice trigger, I shoot my tuned up 686 and dash that idea. Why cant they build an auto with a S&W revolver like trigger?

Out of the five or six DA autos I own, (Mostly Eastern Bloc Blowbacks.) My S&W 1066 is the hands-down winner. Something about these Smith Tens. They always seem to be mighty nice.

Now, I tried a friend's Beretta, and I would say it merely equals, but does not surpass, my Smith. That's a compliment. Both of these guns have superlative triggers.

oh dang, how Could I have forgoten about the Asai One-Pro. That is without a doubt the smoothest, lightest, most creeep/slop/overtravel free trigger I have ever felt...period. The action of the slide is also very tight and smooth, feels like a bank vault door. My local gun dealer has one, and I have been wanting to buy it but parts and assesories are non-existant.

Why do you say you wouldnt recomend one Mylhouse?

Surprisingly, two of the best and smoothest triggers on any of my pistols are weirdies, my STAR UltraStar and my old P-38. In particular, the P-38 is a true joy, even better than my SiGs and almost revolver quality.

Carbon15

I had issues with the gun. It was inaccurate, the recoil spring was woefully undersprung (wouldn't even keep the slide locked tight if I tipped the muzzle up), and the gun is no longer being made. The importer, Magnum Research, told me that they had NO parts whatsoever for the gun. I couldn't get a stronger recoil spring for the gun because the OD of the guide rod was unlike any other (I contacted Wolff). Do a search on this forum and you might find more information. Believe me, I WANTED to love that gun!

Go and try out the DAO pull on a Kahr K-9 and then you'll know what pistol has the sweetest DA pull, it will make a believer out of you.

I would sure like to try one of these "smooth DA Berettas" as I have yet to find one. I should say, one that is stock and hasn't had lighter springs and all the gritty, rough, and L-O-N-G DA trigger polished up. Smooth DA trigger and Beretta shouldn't be used in the same sentence. IMHO

I agree the Para LDA is the sweetest but it is not a true DA. Neither is a Glock but it isn't that smooth anyway.

The best DA triggers (as for smooth and light but not necessarily short) I have found right out of the box were on a S&W and Sig 228.

mine goes to CZ-100 which has DAO trigger, smooth, light and has second strike capability. Smoother and lighter than P99 but has longer trigger pull.

In no particular order, all known to have good DA pulls:

H&K USP LEM (the standard USP when broken in or with a bit of smoothing is pretty nice, too)
Kahr
Beretta DAO
CZ (and copies), especially when properly lubed
SIG
Para LDA

Any pistol that you send to Teddy Jacobsen at Actions By T www.actionsbyt.com He can make a silk purse out of a sows ear when it comes to triggers. Guy knows his stuff. So what ever gun you have just call him and let him get his hands on it and it will be a piece of art when he gets finished with it. Can't say enough good things about his work.
