which pistol has the lightest smoothest DA trigger?

I think the PO LDA has it, but the SFS system for the 1911 and BHP would have it beat if you let them count. The SIG P229 Sport should get honorable mention though.

Another vote for the LDA ....

But I don't have alot of experience with any DA. Mostly gunshops :(

The LDA "cheats" and gets an assist from the cycling of the gun. I would consider it to be a hybrid, but I'm no expert. I consider true DA to have second strike ability.

But I don't know what the best DA with double strike ability would be. My very limited experience points to my friends 226.

True DA? Probably the Beretta 92/96D and Elite series.

The LDA isn't really a double-action; it operates on the same principle as those SFS kits for the 1911. The slide movement cocks the mainspring; pulling the trigger just moves the hammer back until it engages the mainspring and *bang!*.

A true double action has repeat-strike capability; ie as long as you pull the trigger the hammer goes up & down.

Another vote for D model Berettas. Like Tamara and kdmoore, I don't consider the LDA to be a true double action trigger.

My Sig P228 has a DA pull that is as smooth as silk. I've heard the sporter versions are even better!

Are we talking about DAO, or DA/SA pistols?

If we're talking about DAO, then:

1. Para-Ordnance LDA
2. Glock

From what I've seen, most DAO pistols don't have a 2nd strike, or trigger cocking capability. The ones that do, will have the triggers that suck. Plain and simple.

If we're talking about DA/SA, I'd go with:

1. Beretta
2. SIG

FWIW, my SIG P220 is beautifully smooth but a bit heavy. I have a CZ85 Combat that has had a trigger job from Teddy Jacobson, it's lighter and quite smooth. I think most factory pistols are close to 12 lbs. I have been shooting the 220 a lot while using the decocker between rounds, and it has improved significantly with use.

Out of the box

my Sig beats everything else I have, hands down. Of course, a good 'smith can improve almost anything. OTOH, I haven't tried HK, Para, or many others. Not enough money.:D

Kahr Elites

I am suprised that noone has mentioned the Kahr Elite series. Talk about sweet and smooth.

That will cost you exactly: $0.02

My standard K9 came with a butter-smooth trigger pull (DAO of course).
My Kimber Custom Classic's trigger breaks as crisp as snapping a glass rod.

I can't complain.

My Sig P220- crisp, clean, and light. Followed closely by my Sig P228.

I have a old CZ-75 and as smooth as it is (Python quality), it's not as light as the ParaOrdnance LDA.

Remember, smoothness concerns the gradual increase of pressure on the trigger from its position of rest to the fired position. We're talking about a gradual increase of pressure to achieve the fired state. When we talk about light, we're talking about how many lbs is required for the gun to discharge. A trigger may be light, but it may not be smooth and a graph would show a "spike" or several "spikes" in pressure before the gun discharges. On a graph, a smooth trigger will show a gentle ascending arch.

The ParaOrdnance LDA is both smooth and light and impressive[/i].

In autos, it is the CZ-85 Combat which is a shade better than the CZ-75 because it doesn't have the firing pin safety. Very smooth and easy to stage. The Ber 92D is prertty good as well. Of course, no DA auto can come close to the DA pull on my SW686 wheel gun (6.5# and glass smooth).
