the price difference also tilts in favor of the SR22
You get what you pay for, I'd guess.....

Just to be clear, meaning the SR22 is indeed inferior because it doesn't cost as much?

Maybe ....

The sr22 is inferior because it has a pot metal slide..... which is why is it costs less, I would imagine ..... so yeah, you could, by extension, say that.

IMO, that sr-22 is inferior to the base version of the .22/45, too, and it costs pretty much the same! Explain that, plz......

I'm with the revolver people here,,,
If I were only going to own one of the rugers,,,
I would definitely spend my hard earned money on the revolver.

I can't agree with this statement,,,
sr22= pot metal junk
It has an aluminum slide and that's not pot metal.

I will agree that this could be true,,,
sp101= stainless steel heirloom

I would buy the Revolver first,,,
Then maybe the SR-22 later on just for fun.

JMnsHO

Aarond

P.S. This I absolutely can not agree with,,,
I imagine it might be the strongest da 22 ever made
Obviously TennJed has never handled a Colt Trooper Mk-III in .22 LR,,,

You may not be able to stop a charging rhino with 6 rounds of .22 LR,,,
But I believe you could probably beat it to death with this gun. :D

Jimbob

You seem to be pretty down on the SR22 - have you ever handled or shot one? - or will you hold on to your 'pot metal junk' theory and not even give it a shot?

Poodleshooter

I have found that using the SR22, I can be quite accurate (and I'm not that great a shot). The trigger is DA/SA. It is true that the DA pull is long and heavy, but the SA pull is light and crisp; so I just cock the hammer and Ta Da!

I'm not saying that it's the greatest gun ever created, but it's definately not junk.

jimbob,

Our range has both a GSG 1911 and the SR22. When I was researching purchasing a .22lr plinker (most of my money now either goes in my gas tank or stomach, neither of which are particular large but I digress) so I rented both. I liked the feel of the GSG better (I was not considering a revolver at the time--nothing against them though) but the SR22 was nice and a bit different from the P22 which I had shot a couple of times only.

I asked the owner of the range approximately how many rounds had been fired through them and he indicated 5k+ on the GSG and just under 1K on the SR22 which he had less time than the GSG. I did not get the feel that either were cheap in any respect and I highly doubt (I didn't officially check because I decided on the 1911 .22lr) that the slide is made from "pot metal" as you ppurport. While I am reseaching this, can you first point me to a link that speaks to this Ruger SR22 "pot metal" slide makeup so as to save me time;)?

By the way, I settled on the GSG for many reasons one of them being if it's good enough for SIG to buy and stamp their own name on it, it provides that much more confidence with regards to my decision.

-Cheers

My bad- the sr22 looked and felt so much like the p-22 (which has a zinc alloy/ZAMAK/pot metal, pick your choice, slide) that I assumed it was the same stuff .... it's not. It's aluminum .... and still looked and felt as chintzy. To pick up a gun that said "Ruger" in English on the side and screamed "Hi-Point on a diet" in every other way ..... it was a shock.

Sorry, my mistake.

You still can't tell me that the sr-22 will be as durable as a Mark II or III.

sr22= pot metal junk

I think what he means, is because its a plastic gun, like other guns..... lcr lcp glocks etc.... It won't last long? pass down, like a real all metal gun(S&W revolver/beretta) A member of my family really wants to buy my p22, really want to sell it, I like it but I REALLY enjoy 22lr revolvers. Could put it down on a new ruger sp 101 or another taurus 94.

In "theory" and it's entirely conjecture until someone conducts a torture test, the durability factor is not as key of a variable in a .22lr firearm as it would be say in a >9mm. There's just not that much stress resulting from the discharge of .22lr ammo. Obviously the vendors take that into account and that's why .22lr semis and revolvers appear to look a bit less "robust."

Nevertheless, it would be nice if someone could conduct a torture test with a SR22 and Ruger SP101 and we can all take odds?

-Cheers

I see you've already made your choice, and I think you picked the right one of the two. I've never even seen an SR-22, but I've looked at enough Walthers to think it's a cheap piece of junk (and I don't say that about many guns), and I doubt Ruger can do anything to make it a lot better.

I imagine it might be the strongest da 22 ever made

Obviously TennJed has never handled a Colt Trooper Mk-III in .22 LR,,,

Or a Dan Wesson in 22LR. :D Shown with a Ruger Single-Six, and a Bearcat for size comparison.

Did you ever notice that what happens with these "which one would you choose" threads, A. The Chevy or B. The Ford, invariably people will say neither just go with the BMW or Mercedes...:eek:?

Now you do know that we will require a gun review after you beat the snot out of your new SP-101 22 LR with a couple of thousand fun gun shooting rounds.:D

Alright, Alright I might have "jumped the gun" on the stongest DA made:o

But it is a Ruger so it is absolutely "better" than a Colt and a dan Wesson:p

I had considered getting a Walther P22, till I found out about the zamak slide, and read about issues some users had.
When the SR22P came out, I bought one the first week.
I got it to the range recently, and it really performed. Reliable, accurate, and FUN!...it actually brought a smile to my face.
I own several 22's, including a Ruger Mk1 I have owned since the 1970's. This new SR22 is a blast, and will be going with me to the range every trip. It also carries easily. Add in the included second mag, both grips, the case, and both mag floor plates, and it is quite a package.
Really no comparison to the "Walther".
