Which handgun for my wife?

Let HER make the decision on what to get, or you will never hear the end of it..Let HER contact the course instructor for a suggestion on what may be best for HER..The instructors have a way of screwing up their suggestions because of their personal preferences..If you are going to decide (suggest) what is best for her, make sure you like your selection for yourself..Chances are you will wind up with it anyhow..:)

I want to talk about this for a minute:
"She's very uncomfortable even seeing my Colt's hammer cocked back while in the holster and would NEVER consider carrying in Condition One."

A few Q's come up.
Has she shot much/at all?
Maybe you could give ner your unloaded 1911 cocked and locked to play with for a bit, while you watch tv or something.
she if she can make it accidentally fire.
(If your like me, you've likely gone over this already.)

The thing, is, after shooting a 1911 .45, I can't stand to more than play around with any other gun.
The only semi-auto I would entertain the idea of purchasing is a Glock, and that's just because it's "almost single action."

I wanted to love an H&K or SIG, and tried and tried.
That heavy rocking motion of the trigger just ain't condusive to smiling like my 1911.

If I ever get a DA, it'll defeinitely be a revo.
Which brings up my other question: does she or you dislike revolvers?
For someone who's not "into guns" the revolover is almost univocally (did I make that up?) recommended.
The 2" titanium .44 special from Taurus comes to mind.
You can pick one of those up for a lot less than a SIG.

My advice, help her relax about C&L 1911's (in 9x23 if she just HAS to make small holes) or, barring that, think about revos.
I've yet to see the semi auto DA trigger than can stand up to a good S&W or Taurus trigger.

If she's comfortable with a 1911 platform, but isn't comfortable with the SA issue, take a hard look at the Paraordinance DAO models. It might be the best of both worlds.

My wife enjoys shooting my autoloaders, but she struggles with the slide on several of them. For that reason, SHE picked out a nice little S&W Airweight as her conceal-carry weapon. Notice the emphasis on SHE. And SHE drives nails with that little J-frame, whereas I'm lucky to hit the paper.

At the end of the day, it's what SHE'S comfortable with that matters. All other considerations should fall by the way side.

The reason revolvers aren't being considered is because of the flatness issue and to a lesser extent, ammo capacity. She had a Ruger SP101 for a couple of years and it really won't do the trick for what she has in mind.

She doesn't have an extensive background as a shooter but has a firm basic grasp of handgun safety, uses common sense, and isn't afraid to ask questions. A formal training course is in the works as soon as we get the new gun, as required for her CCW license. I have not doubt she will be a model student.

I suppose my influence is going to be hard to avoid in making this decision, after all I was "tasked" to do this. I'm trying to limit my influence as much as possible, however I won't budge on the Smith and Wesson boycott and really can't see myself getting very excited about a Para-Ord LDA. I'm trying to keep an open mind otherwise.

Anybody know anything about the Taurus PT945?

Girlfriend's Gun

My girl likes her SW 99 a lot. She also liked the feel of the compact Baby Eagle (magnum research), but reliability was too unknown. We found the SW 99 at a local gun show. She mostly liked it because it has a very small grip option ( 3 grip sizes included) and it is simple (no saftey/ decock levers). She shoots very well w/ it and has no problem handling the recoil of the .40 .We use winchester silver tip 155gr. (I have a glock 22)
