Which Gun Manufacturers Have the BEST (and the WORST) Customer Service ????

Here's my only experience.

I recently took my Ruger into the local gunsmith to change the sights. He said he rarely ever works on Rugers because they never break.:cool:

service work

The only one I've ever had to use outside a S&W KB was Magnum Research. I'd rate them a 10 or best as the rating numbers have been going both ways.

They confirmed a problem with my .41 mag. barrel, tried to fix it with a week long solvent bath, then replaced it with a .44 mag barrel at my request. To make it an even positive experience they test fired it with a box of premium ammo, cleaned it and then included extra mags and a smile. Don't expect to ever use them again but they are ready to serve if I do.

I can buy the most reliable gun in the world, and I'll get a lemon.

Mossberg = 8 (ship to regional repair person)

Keltec = 9 (unfortunately, had several KelTecs, many dealings with service dept.)

Ruger =10 (call and report broken part, they put a new one in the mail *free* twice)

Baikail (sp) = 9 (a little slow)

Henry Repeating Arms = 10 (not satisfied with rifle, they exchanged it for a new one)

I have dealt with 3 manufacturers customer service. Rated as follows:

Mossberg: 10

Glock: 10

Beretta: -15 (did I mention they had the worst service I have ever seen?)

Springfield: 10

I left a gun with my local dealer, he was going to ship it to Springfield for me, so it could have some work done. I then went on vacation for a few weeks. Previously Springfield had told me on the phone that the work would take a couple of weeks. I had a big shoot at the end of the month, and I figured I had plenty of time.

My dealer forgot to ship it until the day before I got home. I was bummed when I found out because I figured that there was no way that I could get it back in time for the shoot. I called them up, and told them the problem. The folks I talked to were super nice, and bumped me up in the line. I got it back less than a week later. 2nd day aired it back on their own dime.

They have also shipped me replacement parts (broke them my own self :p ) promptly.

Springfield 7 (one of my new M1A NM's came with a loose rear sight. They fixed it in month, but it should have never left the factory that way).

Les Baer 11 (better then 10!. Very helpful on my custom orders, friendly and knowledgable).

Beratta usa 0 (never even returned the letters or the phone calls).

EAA 9 (fixed my 10mm sight, no questions asked and was always very friendly and helpful.

Gunsmith's view

Well, I've been a part-time gunsmith for a few years now and in that time have formed some very strong pinions about the customer service of certain manufacturers. I'd rate the ones I've had to deal with as follows: (10=Best; 1=Worst)

Ruger=11
CZ=10
SW=7
Glock=10
Sig=-5
Browning=8
HK= there is not a rating low enough
Remington=8
Marlin=7
Colt= same as HK
Kimber=7
Brownell's=25 (I know they aren't a manufacturer but they sell replacement parts and original factory parts for just about any gun you can think of. In fact, if they don't have it, then they know where to get it. If they don't know where to get it, they've researched it for me and told me where to get it. (They don't repair guns.))

:D

Now, that's just my experience.

Service

I once called Ruger to buy 30mm rings for my Ruger Mark II pistol. The lady at customer service let me exchange my 1 inch rings that came with the gun for the 30mm and then said that she recommended an extended base and would exchange those also, something that I never thought of. Short story: I had the correct parts a few days after sending in the ones that I was exchanging. Great service.

Kel Tec - Excellent service, lifetime warranty, even to 2nd and 3rd owners. Quick turn-around, usually 7-10 days. I once shipped a gun to KT on Monday for repair. It came back, repaired, that Friday. You can call them and talk to their very knowledgeable gunsmiths.

Downside - have had to send the gun back a second time. KT's quality control, even on repairs, leaves some room for improvement.
