Who has the best (and the worst) customer service among the gun manufacturers that you have dealt with ?

Criteria:

1. Were they courteous and professional ?
2. Did they solve the problem ?
3. Did they charge reasonable fees ?
4. Were they prompt in returning the firearm ?

Rate on a scale of 1-10 (Where 10 = best)

Customer service is obviously not the most important criterion to consider when purchasing a handgun, but it can be important enough to serve as a "tie breaker".

The three that I have delt with....

Okay, on a scale of 1 through 10, with 1 being tops and 10 unsat.
I have only had to deal with three and they are:

Colt = 9
Springfield = 5
Tarus = 1

Colt is low because they appeared to not give a damn, it took three contacts before they would respond.

I have only dealt with Rugers customer service.I would rate them a 10.They paid the shipping and even offered to pay for every bullet i shot thru my P97(1,500) since i was having problems with it jamming.I did refuse to be reimbursed for the ammo but they still sent me two free mags!!!Very good..

dealt with them all.
rated 1-10 the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Glock 8
Ruger 9
Marlin 7
Mossberg 7
HK 3
Sig sauer 6
Remington 6
colt 6
Kimber 6
Savage 6
Browning 0

HK replaced 3 P7 mags for me in 4 days and Smith&Wesson fixed an extractor problem with no problem....only dealings I've ever had, both positive...And when I asked, Smith even shaved down the slide release on my 6906 for me to make it easier to carry....

Not a handgun but the worst service I ever recieved was from Marlin, sent the rifle to them 3 times and they never did fix it. Finally took it to a local smith who had it done in less than an hour.

Learned my lesson from that. Even if they will do it for free, after the shipping and hassal I think (unless it's a very complicated problem) your better off taking it to a local smith than sending it in.

Of the guns I've had to have service on:

Beretta - 5 (took months to get it worked out)
CZ - 10 (nothing broken; spare parts)
Kel-Tec - 10 (nothing broken; spare parts)
Rossi/Interarms (no longer doing business) - 8 (new parts)
Ruger - 10 (broken extractor)
Taurus - 5 (new trigger; very slow.)

Fortunately I've never needed service on any Walther I own, but when I bought my USP Tactical, the O-rings were missing. H&K sent them the same day, no questions asked. They also sent a couple of 4" decals. On another occasion, I needed a manual for an SL-7 and they sent that for free, same day too.

On more than one occasion I have heard of poor customer service from H&K. I've not experienced that with them. They've always been courtious and prompt in my dealings with them.

I think a lot of manufacturers' service is inconsistent--one person will get a great response, another will encounter problems. The following is just my experience. YMMV.

Beretta: excellent--prompt, courteous, and competent.
Browning: excellent, although seldom needed.
Colt's: I've often heard its service is iffy, but have gotten good results myself.
Glock: very good, especially prompt for upgrades.
Ruger: very good. Also, apparently thorough--I remember shipping my Redhawk to Ruger due to slippery hammer checkering. It came back with a new hammer, yoke, and barrel!
SIG: does good work, but is incredibly slow. Recently I waited over three months for SIG Arms to replace the defective slide catch on my P232. I realize that SIGs seldom require service, but this experience has made me hesitate to buy another SIG.
S&W: very good, but not always thorough. I've had to send a few guns in twice to get the job done right.

Smith: excellent. Courteous folks, turned around in 8 days from drop off at FEDEX to returned to my door.

Ruger: good. Quality of work was very good. Turn around was in excess of 5, maybe 6 weeks. In defense of Ruger, I sent the gun back in late October, early November, peak hunting season. My guess is that they were overloaded at that time.

I have dealt with only 3 manufactures up to ths point and here are my votes.

Browning 0 (Dont ask)

Remington 8 (Turn around time a little long, good work though.)

Ruger 10 (Quick turn around time 6 days to be exact, very thorough and effecient and good workmanship and excellent customer service also reimbursed me for shipping)

This is confusing, folks. The first rating system mentioned on this thread put 1 at the top, and 10 at the bottom. Others don't specify, still others use the more usual system of making 1 the bottom and 10 the top. (as in, she's a 10! )

Maybe some of you could edit your posts to conform them to the usual standard?

I sent a Buckmark pistol to Browning, it came back just like it was when I sent it to them. They did not touch it.

I sent a 1911 pistol to Colt, same thing, they did not do a thing to fix it.

These were new guns, less than 6 months old.

I sent a frozen up Python I bought used, several years old, to Colt, and they sent it back in perfect shape, repaired with no bill.

Go figure.
