Which Glock for a raffle?

The Executive Committee of the Carroll County Republican Party (Georgia) is considering holding a raffle for a Glock pistol later this year. Since Glock is located in nearby Smyrna which is also in Congressman's Bob Barr's district they were the first choice.

What I'd like to know from you is which Glock model do you think would be most popular (could generate the most interest) for a raffle? I was thinking of a G30 in .45ACP but realize that not everyone is comfortable with the 45 caliber.

I know that no matter what we choose there will be some who aren't interested but we want to pick something that has broad appeal.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Joe

I would go with either a G19 or a G17, both in 9mm.

The G19 is, in my opinion, one of Glock's best models. It's suitable for concealed carry if someone wants to go that route, and 15-round magazines are still available if someone wants to pony up the $$ for them.

The other calibers (.357 Sig, .40 S&W, .45 ACP) may be a little unfriendly to a novice shooter, and 9mm ammo is the cheapest of the bunch by a pretty wide margin.

Another possible idea: Raffle off a certificate good for the purchase amount of a G19, redeemable at any of the local gun shops. That way the winner can get the model they want.

Your State Police use the Glock 22 in .40. That would be a decent choice. Or the 27, which I'm sure they use as backup. And you could also promote CCW with the smaller 27, the right to carry and all that.
Just my $.02........

G19

For this type of thing the G19 is best. It is the ideal size and fires the all around 9mm. The novice must avoid any other semi-auto cartridge more powerfull than the 9mm.

17 or 19. Stick with 9mm and stay away from the sub-compacts since you don't know who will win it.

I agree with the G17 or G19, leaning toward the G19 because it probably fits more hands. Of course I can't understand how anybody could argue about the caliber of a Glock for the price of a raffle ticket unless the tickets are $500 each. :D

I would let them choose a Glock model from a list that you have made and have arrangements with the dealer to provide one of the pistols in the model chosen for a price that you have set. Pretty much all of the Glocks are priced the same with the exception of the .45's, 10mm and the Specialty type such as the G35.

Either way even having one Glock..such as a 17 would have broad appeal. If they don't like it they can always trade it for something else. I really don't think the model with disuade someone from purchasing a ticket for a couple of bucks when you have a chance to win close to $500.

Thank you all for your input. Looks like the G19 is the winner in the "broad appeal" department.

The ideas for a certificate good for whatever model the winner wants is a good one and would be considered if we were just going to buy "over the counter". If the Executive Committee agrees to go forward with this idea we will be working directly with the Glock distributor so a model would need to be chosen in advance.

Mike, if we go forward with this I will indeed provide details for my friends here on TFL. I'm thinking of tickets for $5 each and have already talked to the Sheriff about keeping everything legal and a local FFL about doing transfer duties including shipping should the winner be located out of state.

I'll let you know if this idea I'm working on becomes a reality.

Thanks again.

Joe

Couldn't the distributor work out an arrangement to accept a certificate rather than selecting a particular model? I'd ask. If the people who are planning to buy raffle tickets know that they have the chance to get the Glock of their choice then you'll probably sell more tickets.

Just my $0.02.

I like the choice idea too, heck, if I win I'll drive up to Smyrna and pick it out myself. If you have to choose one, let me put in a word for the G36, the slimmed-down mini_glock in .45. Why? Because they are in short supply, from what I've heard, and a rarer item might generate more interest.
