Which Cheap 9mm Ammo (S&B or Winchester)?

Doug,

I like both. Prefer Sellier & Bellot.

Sellier & Bellot is extremely accurate in every 9mm I have ever fired it through. Never have seen anything resembling a problem after firing many rounds in 9mm. .380 or 45 ACP. The sealant is a plus but I find the best feature is the absence of flash when firing in low light. Almost imperceptible when compared to Remington, Winchester or Federal generic offerings. I use Sellier & Bellot exclusively in my 1911's if I haven't reloaded any of my own. Sellier & Bellot is also my SHTF (reloading not an option) ammunition primarily for the above mentioned reasons. I find the brass a pleasure to reload and 45 ACP cases have achieved as many as 23 reloadings before I tossed them. I realize now I could have gone many more. Some people do have problems since the Sellier & Bellot primers are a bit harder than others. I have not experienced failures to detonate using P226's, P228, CZ-75B's, Smith & Wesson 5906, Smith & Wesson 59, Colt 70 Series and Kimber 1911's.

Winchester Q4172 (50 rd. white box) is now being offered as Q4172VP (value pack) in the loose 100 rd. boxes. Feel free to tell me I am wrong, but they are not the same with regard to bullet construction. While the 50 rd. boxes have projectiles that are copper in color, the 100 rd. value packs feature a projectile that is almost the color of the case itself. The value pack ammunition is not as accurate as that in the 50 rd. boxes in my handguns. Still, I find either adequate for plinking/target shooting.

I appreciate Winchesters efforts at providing affordable American-made ammunition, and thats why I shoot either Q4172 offering more than any other 9mm ammunition. I prefer the 50 rd. boxes over the 100 rd. boxes, however. Their brass is my personal favorite (although Remington is as good).

My suggestion is to try both of them to see how they perform in your firearms. If you can save some money going either way and still achieve the performance you desire, great.

Since you narrowed your choices down to these two offerings, it tells me you have done your homework. I tried PMC, Magtech, PMP, UMC, Federal...you name it. These two gave me the best bang for the buck in my firearms. I won't be surprised if they perform similarly for you.

Now, off to the range with you with both types!

Be sure to report back which performed best and in what type of firearm they did it in.

I use cci/speer 9mm as my target 9mm ammo

3.99 for a box of 50 at the local Academy sports

cheaper than mail order

it is clean and accurate but has a non-reloadable aluminum case

I do not reload so it is not an issue for me
