which carbine would you use for brush

If you're shooting from a stand and it's under 75 yards or so, the cartridge is almost immaterial. If you're a walking/stalking hunter, and there's odds that the deer is gonna up-jump-and run, I'd want something more than either of the relative pipsqueaks. .30-30 or more.

Whatever you get, I strongly recommend practicing offhand shooting on beercans until you never miss at 50 to 75 yards when you take a snapshot.

Clean kill, clean kill, clean kill.

Hmm let's see up close....and need REAL knockdown power.....Medium Speed 170 Grain 308 Caliber bullet or.......429 Caliber 300 grain bullet at a slower Medium speed...

Oh thats easy .44 Magnum with 300 Grain Rounds!

Shoot a Grizzly with a .308 Caliber 170 Grain bullet @ 2100 FPS impact velocity = Pissed Grizzly! and a hunter for lunch!

Shoot a Grizzly with a .429 Caliber 300 Grain bullet @ 1500+ FPS impact velocity = Trophy!

Easy math :D

If you REALLY mean Carbine --

.45-70 Trapdoor or .50-70 Sharps.:D
That's what I use (unless I'm using the Martini-Henry .577-.450 or the Alex Henry .450 Express or the... never mind.).
