Which Caliber?

There threads are always fun, and predictable. I vote 380 or 9 mm for EDC. With quality ammo it will get the job done, if I do mine. I'll take .357 mag for hunting anything that grows around here, if I don't have a long-gun. We don't do SHTF threads here at TFL so I won't go far down that road. I will say if I'm gunning for food I will take a 12 guage shotgun with a 20" barrel and a couple boxes assorted shells. Add a good .22 rifle to the mix and I am good to go.

* * * But there's a reason handguns are way down the list of militaries only worried about killing two legged attackers, much less bear or other large predators. If you want "power," then step up the game.

Totally agree.

Beyond combat conditions, where the usefulness of a pistol cartridge is strictly as an anti-personnel round, the versatility of the 10mm AUTO has all its competitors beat.

I have 2 rifles here a bolt action and an extremely reliable automatic rifle has well. Which is reserved for first up hunting and "combat" if I have to be in it. The pistols are just back ups. And I'll carry my .40 Walther or .45 1911 either around town concealed or in the woods. Good thing us Americans are able to make these decisions and buy such arms. We may need to use them in the future. I have a feeling ww3 is very close and who knows what could happen to this country especially with a new president coming.

I love the 10mm and would love a 1911 in 10mm. But I think I would rather have a 6" barrelled .460rowland 1911 even better

*yawn* another "caliber war". The 10mm Auto is the best game in town. Period. you can change the barrel and change cartridges 4 times (9x25, .357 SIG, .40 S&W and the original 10mm Auto).

Set, point and match. :p

Winner, winner, chicken dinner! :D

If the 10mm was the be all end all cartridge...it would be the round of choice of police departments....which it AINT....45..40..9mm...are the prevalent rounds for many reasons.....

and thats the FACTS!!!

The .460 Rowland seems to have a lot of fans; however, it's strictly a reloading proposition.

10mm fans reload for their cartridge too, but every LGS in this area stocks various flavors of factory 10mm, from the .40-level federal and CCI/Blazer stuff to Buffalo Bore's full-throttle loads.

Sig's new line of 10mm ammo is out there as well, 180gn FMJs & JHPs loads @ 1200fps. The regional Cabela's has quite a bit of it, as they're also selling Sig's 10mm P220 pistols.

But ammo for the .460Rowland is effectively unobtainium unless you make it.

1. I believe one should have handguns chambered in multiple calibers.

2. I believe decisions on personnel and hardware are made based upon political correctness and cost versus who can do the best job or what equipment will do the best job.

3. It really doesn't matter what I believe. Find the platform and caliber that works best for you and embrace it.

4. Peace out.
