Which Caliber Why

Ther's an old saying in Texas that "you dance with who brung ya". Whatever you shoot well, and bring enough ammo for the gun. I watched an outdoor program a while back where this kid about 10 or 12 was shooting hogs (and some BIG ones) with an NEF Handi Rifle in .223 and shooting them in the ear. One shot, flop. Seemed to work just fine for him. My $.02. CB.

30/30

Listen, I have a solution. There was a gentleman a few threads before me that mentioned his wife using the 30-30 with the new Hornady LeveRevolution bullets. These bullets are hands down awesome. They truly change the old 150 yard lever gun into a true 250 yard rifle. I love these bullets they are Very accurate and penetrate well. Trust me on this one. You'll be happy with the plate full of meat and your shoulder will be happy with no pain from recoil (30/06). These bullets are a little on the pricy side but here is a website that I guarentee will have the best prices and best of all the price you see also includes shipping. That's right the shipping is free!

i'm assuming .243 & -06 are bolt and 30-30 is lever.

stand (still) hunting 1. 30-06 150, 165, or 180 gr.
2. .243 100 gr.
3. 30-30 170 gr.

stalking 1. 30-30 170 gr.
2. .243 100 gr.
3. 30-06 150, 165, 180 gr.

jbirdhaffield, Thanks for the link. This looks like an interesting site. I've got to point out however that Midway offers a better price on the 30-30 Leverevolution ammo, though they don't pay shipping cost.

.243 and .30-30 are the two most perfect deer calibers

oh you didn't!!

I Personaly would use the .30-06, that is if you're comftorble with the recoil... the other two are a bit lighter, but .30-06 will be flater shooting, with more knock down exc.

.30-30 lever actions are at home in brushy 30yard environments, when you don't want a long barrel tangling in brush and luggin around a scoped .3006

3 different tools for different situations. All of them extremely good at what they're made for. .243 = your son's and/or wife's first deer rifle. .30-30 = short field and/or on the move rifle, carry all day. .30-06 = anything else.
