Which .45?

I just can't seem to warm up to the hard-slick and shiney plastic Rugers.

I looked at the HK's when they came out years ago---but didn't care for the mag release-----Are the .45's any different?? I haven't really looked at one in years.

Might have to give the CZ's a look ---if I can find one.

I had concerns about the plastic Rugers, but fired one instead and had such a good time I bought one (KP97D). It has been a fantastic weapon and slippage is a non-existent issue despite I live in the ultra-humid central region of North Carolina. As to the mag release on the HK, it is ambdextrous and works extremely well. I can't speak to the HKs from way back when, but the one currently on my USP .45 Compact is great and allows you to eject the mag with the shooting hand without repositioning.

If I wanted a new 45 that wasn't a 1911..

I think I'd look at the Sig, and the CZ 97.

The Glock 21 is just too big of a gun for me, and the Glock series.. (brand me for it) but without the "NY Trigger" I wouldn't want to carrya glock as a ccw.

Sigs have a great track record of reliability, and they point naturally. Just for the price i'd take a long look at the CZ.. the reliability and toughness of the CZ is well known in eastern europe and for a while the CZ75 was the 'bees knees' of the shooting community. It would definitely get a once over from me.

Ruger makes a good gun. They work. They are Ugly they are oversized. They are too bulky for ccw (to me). they are inexpensive and robust and durable.

You did mention a house/target gun rather than a carry piece.. have you considered a para ordinance LDA? Its got the advantages of the 1911, slim light etc but its double action.
