The 97, all the way and back.

The CZ-97 is a large gun, but it handles smaller than it is. It's a fantastic natural pointer, has a halfway-decent trigger out of the box, and is, if anything, stronger than the Ruger.

I've never liked Ruger autos, although it's partliy a subjective matter of 'feel.'

Two small points. Have you considered an EAA Witness in .45ACP? A bit smaller than the CZ, and cheaper, but with identical handling and controls.

Also, no 1911s???

Witness, 1911, et. al.

About the Witness. If I'm gonna get a Witness, it'll be a 10mm. I've heard they're mostly good, but you get a few lemons, and if you do get a lemon you're screwed because EAA would rather lose your business than fix the damned gun (from what I've heard). I'm hesitant to buy a pistol from them thus.

1911s. As I said, the only good* 1911s in my price range require an ambi safety. I've put my foot down and will not buy, at this time, a pistol that I have to modify in order for it to work properly for me.

Now sure, the CZ's safety is useless to me too, however, it's double action. If I wanted to carry it, I'd just lower the hammer and the safety would be irrelevant.

*I was burned by a klunker Charles Daly that I bought via private sale when I was 18. Even though it was my only pistol, I haven't looked back since selling it and will not buy another Charles Daly.

About the Witness...fair enough. I've heard some of the same news.

The CZ-97 could, in theory, be carried concealed. It's big, yes, but it's suprisingly slim for a double-stack .45ACP. The real challange will be to find leather. The P90 may be smaller than the CZ, but I'll lay odds it's thicker through the middle.

At least try and find a CZ to handle before you decide. The CZ-75 series is probably the only gun besides the BHP that just seems to fit everyone.

CZ Connection

The only CZ I've handled is a CZ40, and it fit my hand like it was made for me.

CZ Connections prices are better than Gander Mountain's. I don't think I'd actually order a pistol through GM; they seem to have inflated prices lately. I'd go through one of my local dealers. Even with a $40.00 transfer fee, CZ Connection's price on the 97B is better than what I'd pay at Gander Mountain.

About the size of the CZ-97B. Everyone says it's big. I mean, how big? How does it compare to a Para P14-45? How about a Glock 21? I know it's heavier, but it's all forged steel, too.

Over on CZ Forum, somebody said that if you're looking for a heavier recoil spring for your CZ97 (say you want to fire some +P, or maybe a box of Super), CZ75 springs fit it perfectly. CZ Forum also says Witness .45 recoil spings will fit, or you can get a Beretta 92 spring and shorten it appropriately. I'd call Wolff Gunsprings directly to be sure.

You know, I'm surpised it's this close. People always seem to recommend CZs over Rugers.

But when you mention "carry gun" and CZ-97 in the same sentence, I think that makes people recommend the Ruger. :D
