Which 40 cal is the best

The CZ 75B would be another good choice in a .40 caliber handgun. Mine is more accurate the its 9mm brother.

I've had a Glock 22 and a 24C, a BHP, and a S&W TSW in .40.

The one I still have is a CZ40B, which was the most accurate and also the least expensive of the lot. All were 100% reliable.

The Kahr K40 is a very nice gun, well made, accurate and very concealable. I have the Elite stainless, it has a shorter trigger pull which I like better than the standard trigger which is very looooong! I am staying away from the polymer versions until Kahr works the kinks out.

I wont say which to buy, just the top picks IMO, not in this order necessarily:

Sig Sauer
HK
Glock
Beretta

Don't worry about KB's.....Use good Factory ammo, or no hot reloads and you should be fine, I have shot the 40 for about 10 years now and have never even had a bulged case. I still have 10 fingers even though I only type with about 4 of them:D

The best .40cal is the HK p7m10. Period. End of Argument. Those who say it is ugly, or too top-heavy haven't shot it. As a pin gun, it will keep up with a $2000 custom. As a carry gun, it is heavy, but it is fast into battery and safer than any Glock.

Very little muzzle flip, great trigger. Even more accurate than a P7m8 in my experience. A devastatingly effective gunfighting tool.

Second Best: Sig 229. Extremely accurate, beautiful machining, extremely reliable, much better DA trigger than HK.

Best for carry: The Glock 23, in my mind is the best glock made for CCW. Reasonably thin, simple, completely reliable. Much better than the HK compact 40 for carry. (And I own both).

I have shot 4 different .40 cal semiauto handguns and would rate them as follows:
1. Steyr M40 - accurate, unusual sights that are quick to aquire, great if
you get used to sights or have small-med. hands.
minimal muzzle rise, lowest bore axis
2. Beretta Cougar - accurate, often overlooked, awsome looking wood
grips in the special edition package out 1-2 years ago.
3. Walther P99 - changable grips very comfortable, well built, more flip
4. HK USP compact - well built, least accurate in my hands

You could do no wrong in any of these, some say Glocks, Beretta 92's, and CZ's are the best in 9mm, I love them in 9mm, but have never tried any .40 variant.

I have owned a few 40's...a Para Ordnance P16, a Glock 23, a HK USPc 40 and a Beretta 96fs. Of them, the Beretta shot the best for me. That's not to say the others weren't fine guns, its just that I was the most consistent w/ the 96.
As a foot note, I no longer own any of these handguns. I get more enjoyment from my 45's and my 9's :D Just personal preferance.
