Which 40 cal is the best

I am considering a 40 cal and have looked at many. Unfortunately, the more I look, the more confused I become. Reliability and accuracy are the top two criteria. My hands are not large and I'm thinking of no more than a 4 inch ballel. What do you recommed?

Bob

Find one that does not have a propensity for having live rounds blow up in the barrel or KABOOM's. I think the Glock in a 9mm, may be one of the toughest and finest weapons out there however, after years of denial, I believe there is merit to the fear of .40 Glocks kabooming even with factory ammo due to a loose chamber that exists to enusre ease of feeding.

Ruger, Sig, CZ 75, CZ 40, HK, Walther, etc.

my personal favorite is my beretta 96 because it was much more accurate the my glock 22 or sig 229.

the beretta might be a bit big as would my second choice the sig 226

i haven't shot one for accuracy but a cz is great for a smaller hand and is also a great buy

I'm very happy with my Steyr M40 :)

If you have smaller hands you'll find it much more comfortable then a Glock.

Still, you can't go wrong with a CZ or a Kahr either.

Steyr M40.

Relatively inexpensive, VERY well machined, accurate and has a beefy barrel with a fully-supported chamber.

Also, not too big to carry.

Overall, excellent gun.

Steve.

Darn! Zundfolge beat me to the punch!

Edited 'cause Zundfolge's faster.

Best .40 S&W...

My HK USP40F and Glock 22 are THE best .40 S&W handguns out there. All other USP40Fs and Glock 22s are inferior compared to MINE.

Jim

BTW, I'm being sarcastic.

HK, Glock, Sig, 1911s (in .40S&W), Steyr, etc. are probably very good handguns...

Get a Walther P99. Then you can adjust the grip to your hand with the different sized backstraps. I like this gun so much that I've got six of them. All are very reliable and very accurate and all are in .40.

P99

I was in the same predicament over getting a .40 recently, and I eventually decided on an HK USP .40 Compact.

My reasons:

*Controls similar to a 1911
*Has both a manual safety as well as decocker
*Both decocker and slide stop are ergonomically placed (no shifting hands to actuate)
*Very compact (as small as a Glock 23 except for height)
*Not as prone to "spontaneous disassembly" as a Glock!

Since shooting it, I can say it is 100% reliable and very accurate. My only two complaints are the top-heavy feel and very stiff DA trigger.

Browning HP is a good gun for people with small hands. A lot of LEO units have gone to it because it fits women better than 1911 guns do. It's also pretty concealable as the grip is about 3/4" shorter than a full-sized auto like a 1911 or Beretta 96FS.

Sig P229. Designed for the .40 S&W round.

Glock 23 as a second choice.

There is no such thing as the "best" as people who collect guns will tell you. Too many variables including user subjectivity.

Well let's broaden the choices here with the S&W 4006. I love mine, have multiple mags and no problems besides it shoots better than I do.:)

Bought a 4013TSW three years ago, pre-agreement. Love it. If I was buying new today, I'd be between the Sig P229 and the H&K USP Compact. I have also heard good things about the Steyr M40, and I understand you get them them with normal sights rather than the funky triangle, but those I have seen have all had the triangles. I guess I could swap them out.

I have to put a vote in for the Ruger P94 in .40cal...when I think of accuracy and reliability thats my handgun of choice...have had lots of different handguns over the years and my P94 has been the best in ANY caliber...built like a tank (no ka-booms) and eats any ammo you can feed it...and it won't break your bank
:D
Tony.

Just got a Glock 22 From B&H Gun Rack (on Gunsamerica) for $435.00. Also really liked my 23, just didn't fit my hands as well.

As for blowing up...I won't even go there:rolleyes:

There's alot of great guns in .40.
SIG 229 (maybe the best)
Walther P99
HK USP40 compact
Beretta 96 (but it is big)
Glock
CZ
Ruger(also Big)

"Reliability and accuracy are the top two criteria."
These all make good a choice.
See which feels good to you.
