Wanting to look into a 22 target pistol for plinking. Would like to hear your preferences on what to look for. This will just be for target so size and weight are no problem. Hvy. barrels are cool with me also. So let me know which pistol you like and maybe some reasons why you like it. I'm really looking for one of those tack driving suckers! Thanks for all the input in advance! Ron

Ruger Target Pistol

Best value for dollars spent.

Could be best overall with a 'smith that knows his stuff.

Another vote for the Ruger MK-II; in particular
the KMK-512 model. Very accurate, but must
be kept clean while firing. An old toothbrush in
your range bag becomes your best friend.

Rugers are good for plinkin'.
Smith Model 41 is a great gun, I've shot them in competitions. However, since I don't like S&W, I'd probably go with a Baikal IZH 35M, these are available from CDNN Investments, Inc.
But, as far as I am concerned, the best target pistol made is the Walther GSP.
But if you buy one of those, you're looking at spending a large sum of money.

Ruger's are probably the best value and the toughest.
S&* Model 41 is probably the best current production.

Older High Standards are probably the best ever.

I had a Ruger Target Competition (slab side), and it was a very nice, accurate, reliable gun.

I more recently picked up a Kadet .22 adapter kit for my CZ-85 Combat (it'll work on the CZ-75B), and it proved to be just as accurate as the slabside. I sold the slabside.

If you have a 1911 pistol, consider the Marvel adapter. I saw a gun test recently where the Marvel unit on a good 1911 frame was giving .5" groups at 50 yards. Amazing! (Might've been a recent Handguns magazine...)

As a standalone gun, an older S&W 41 is probably the way to go.

Benelli MP-95E Atlanta

If you want a target .22 that isn't outrageously expensive, seek out a Benelli. These are imported by EAA and had the HK branding on them at one point. (Same pistol). You can find them for $550 - $750. This is a real target pistol, not a plinker.

I would have to also recommend the Ruger MKII series. There have so many differant model's to choise from. here is there link http://www.ruger-firearms.com/pistolsrf.html all are built like a tank and reliable as hell. with so many aftermarket Parts and accessory's for them. They can be easily modified to suit almost anyones flavor.
Mine Picture below has over 15,000 rounds through it and still looks and functions like new. Good luck with your Choice.

Ruger MK II is a terrific choice!

I opted for the 5 1/2" heavy barrel and it fills several roles superbly. It's accurate enough to do some serious target work, it packs easily so I carry it hunting and fishing, and it's the only gun my wife is comfortable with (so far) as a home defense gun when I'm away.

Like Archie said, it's also a great value.

I shoot the S&W model 41 in competition and find it to be a good weapon. As long as you take care of it, it will take care of you.

I have shot the ruger MKII pistols and liked them. I wouldn't mind picking one up. Of course, I have to second caliban's mention of the Walther GSP. I love my walther.

I have got to go with the IZH 35 also. One hell of a gun for under 400.00. The Russians shot the same gun in the Olympics.
It's also good enough to impress Walther they have taken the same gun and changed the finish and grips and called it a Walther. I have one with over 5,000 rounds through it and everyone who shoots it says I will have to get me one.

Tough to beat the Rugers. I have a MK 512 and a MK 678G (government target model). Both have bull barrels and just don't malfunction. Great guns!!
:D

I have to agree with RAE. Ruger for value, Model 41 for current production accuracy, old High Standards may be the best ever. However, the Colt Woodsman Match Target gets the nod for the classiest (no slouch on accuracy, either). It will be interesting to see how the new Beretta U22 Neos performs. No Buckmark fans here?

I prefer the Smith & Wesson Model 41. I'll buy a Ruger before I'll buy a new Smith & Wesson because of the :barf: agreement:barf: .
