Which .22 cal. pistol?

My suggestion is to not give up on the Ruger MkII/III just because it's supposedly hard to disassemble and clean.
Once you inderstand it, it's not a problem at all. I can tear mine down and put it back together in about a minute. Not bad at all.
Plus, you can show all the other clowns how to take their's apart and you'll be a hero! :)

I agree - field stripping the Ruger MkIII is not easy, but I've done it many times without issue.

Look how beautiful the Ruger MkIII Hunter is. cocobolo wooden grips, a fluted barrel that gives it great balance. Fiber-optic front sight and click-adjustable rear sight (both in x & y). And performs as good as it looks IMHO.

Good luck!

While no decision has been made (please continue the opinions/suggestions), Ruger seems to be in the lead.

If (and is still only an "if") it came down to Ruger, should it be a Mark II or a Mark III ? Any other particular specific Ruger model? I have already decided that if it DID come down to Ruger, I want a bull barrel.

fairly easy to clean
fairly easy to shoot
somewhat easy on my wallet

Look for a Walther P22 with the 3" barrel or a Sig Mosquito.

My Ruger MK III is a great gun, but a pain in the neck to clean.

Good luck!

I have Colt, High Standard(all from Conn.), AMT, Walther, S&W, and Ruger slides. Although my best is Colt, I would have to recomend the Ruger for you because it is of great quality and enjoyable to shoot. I love my Mark III Hunter it's in the pick-up with me more than the others. Has dispatched lots of nasty little varmits and killed untold numbers of vegrant pop cans

I have seen some videos online about Ruger Mark III disassembly/assembly. It is a little complicated, but it doesn't seem "too ugly"... I do have a bit of trepidation at the thought of "hammering" on a gun... <grin>

It's always looked easier on video.

For fun factor & bang for the buck, I don't think you'll find much that can compete with a Bersa/Firestorm .22. I have the Berse 23 and it is _by far_ the most fun gun I have. Whatever else I take to the range on any given day, the 23 is my vade mecum.

I went to the range and tried out some pistols.

My thoughts:
Rental guns:
Sig Mosquito - Not too impressed. It had a heavy trigger pull (can probably be adjusted, but...)
S&W 22A - not bad
Berretta Neos - easy to shoot
Walther SP22 - didn't like it much... odd looking, too

My friend's Ruger Mark II:
Nice gun. Easy to shoot. Comfortable in my hand.

I think I am leaning toward the Ruger.

To my query "a Mark II or a Mark III", a gentleman who worked at the range immeadetly came back with "Mark II". I am leaning that way myself... Fewer "extras" to get in the way...
