Which 1911?

Springfield. Every one I've seen and handled, including mine, has been 100% out of the box.

RikWriter, I know this is gonna toast you, but every Kimber I've ever gotten my grubby mitts on has been less than exemplary, reliability-wise. Example: at my last PP class, there were three 1911s, a Kimber, a Baer (!), and my Springfield. The Baer and mine shot the tightest groups and never malfed. The Kimber hung up on every other shot. That and the fact that Kimbers have the highest rate of return of all 1911s at my shop have convinced me that they're not All That.

Coinneach, doesn't toast me at all, since I value what I know from personal experience much more than what I hear second hand from other people, particularly people who I don't know other than as a collection of pixels on a computer screen.
To be frank, I simply don't believe that your experience is a good sampling. There are FOUR Kimber Master Dealers within an hour of me, Coinneach. FOUR. I know all the dealers personally. Between them, they have about half a dozen Kimbers returned in the last three years.
I value that more than your statement.

RikWriter:

When I got my Kimber, I sent it back to Yonkers, not my local master dealer. That's what the folks at Kimber told me to do. They do the repairs in New York on warranty guns.

If you just count the people that take their under-warranty guns back to where they bought them, you'll miss counting the rest of us.

One more thing- My Kimber is working just fine, now...

Coineach, its okay, I believe you ;) .

to send his gun back to the factory because they couldn't get it right the first time.

StraightShot, I mentioned return to dealer because Coinneach did. I also know quite a few people who have Kimbers who've had no problems, but that isn't a representative survey any more than MTAA's or your problem is. I do know that around here, people who want to ship handguns usually take them back to the dealer because the dealer can use the post office and an individual can't: we have to go to UPS and pay double for next day air.

I have 2 Kimbers a Custom Classic and a Pro Carry SLE and love them both. Shot about 300 rounds out of Custom and 150 Rounds out of the Pro Carry. and no jams or malfunctions ever. I have owned a Springfield Loaded too that never jamed either but had the Rear sight come loose and every 50 rounds or so Guide rod would work loose got sick of that and traded in for the Kimber and glad I did great gun. Some day maybe I will try Springfield again. :D Good Luck
