Which 1911 would you buy

Personally, me, I'd get a Colt Gold Cup. But all the ones you mentioned are a good choice.
I would also choose a Colt Gold Cup. However, of the brands you named, I would take a Springfield as my second choice -- but the Rangemaster, not the TRP.

But guys, he's ALREADY got a Gold Cup. Worked on no less. And a slew of other 1911's. See post #10. I suggested a top end Les Baer but now I'm starting to think he should just buy ammo and enjoy the ones he's got.

Springfield TRP, it is supposed to be one helluva pistol. I like the springfields because like the Colt the framed and slide are forged carbon steel which is my favorite. The grain structure is stronger than that from something cast. Springfield usually fits things very well and they generally have everything down pat. And on the plus side they don't even use Brazilian parts anymore they are supposed to be 100% American parts now I believe.

Of the four Colt 1911 I have purchased new over my lifetime, three of the four had problems. When they come in the new in the box, one would seem to have the expectation that they would function. They (three of them) did not.

My next new 1911 would have to be a Ruger SR1911...made in the USA, unequaled customer service and no plastic parts...unlike my XSE Colt Commander which had a cleverly silver colored, plastic mainspring housing. If anyone wants to comment that the plastic mainspring housing is a "quality" part, send me the money for postage and I will send you the "quality" Colt plastic mainspring housing absolutely free (any takers?). The horribly checkered grips that came with it will cost you a little more though...I use them to show people that Colt must hire blind people in their "quality control" dept.

Oh, did I mention it (the XSE Commander), was shipped with a recoil spring so underpowered that the gun would not function reliably and had to be replace. Also the firing pin spring was so weak that it was letting the firing pin retainer plate to slip down and tie up the gun. I have to laugh when people recommend buying Colts because they are "more reliable" than other brands.

Dan Wesson is next on my 1911 list. So....there is my answer. I like the Sig as well and sure it would be a fine pistol.

I have several 1911s. The one that I shoot MOST often is the Springfield TRP. It is a very nice gun. Quite heavy and recoil is mild. I opted to get rid of the goofy factory guide rod thingy and replaced it with a Dawson tool less guide rod. This gun ranks right up there with the Sigs and Smith and Wesson Pro Series and Dan Wesson Valor.

+1. The TRP is a fantastic shooting gun. I too ditched the two piece guide rod for an Ed Brown GI rod and plug. Otherwise, the gun is excellent right out of the box.

Well now, you guys picked them all except for the S&W PC. So a least you made my list a little shorter. Thanks for you remarks.

Well, I like the S&W 1911 PC too. A very nice pistol for the money. I wouldn't shorten your list any until you handle one and sample the fine trigger pull on it. Plus, Smith & Wesson has a life-time warranty on their firearms and have a great customer service reputation.

Sorry...;)

KyJim . Have you ever deal with Bud's Gun Shop ??? Do You recommend them???
They are local to me so, even when I ordered online, I ended up going down there and dealing with them in person. They've always been courteous and professional. Their reputation on the Internet seems to be very good but, as you might expect, nobody gets five stars 100% of the time.

I would recommend to consider the Desert Eagle 1911 G Model.

From Magnum Research :
Featuring all the timeless style of an American original and sharing the proud heritage of the legendary Desert Eagle, the new .45 ACP 1911 from Magnum Research comes fully equipped with top-of-the-line custom features at a basic model price that blows away the competition.
The Desert Eagle 1911 single action models are available in two barrel lengths, 5” and 4.33” and are shipped with two 8 round magazines with extended base pads for positive magazine insertion. The frame is precision cast and machined from high quality carbon steel and the slide is machined from solid billets of steel than finished in a matte black. The Desert Eagle 1911 comes loaded with outstanding features that would cost extra from a custom gunsmith. Some of these features include a high-ride beavertail grip safety, extended magazine release, aluminum trigger with an overtravel stop, stainless steel full-length guide rod, extended thumb safety, enlarged ejection port, beveled magazine well and double-diamond checkered wood grips held in place by stainless steel hex screws.

Well I did a count. we have5 votes for TRP, , 4 for Colt and Dan Wesson, 2 for Sig and 1 for S&W. Now. I am surprised that S&W 1911 PC did not get more votes. I Know they have a Briley barrel bushing( same as their PC 952 which is a nail driver) , modified trigger to reduce the up and down motion of the trigger, under cut trigger guard for higher grip, adj' sights , great customer service. I had returned a Mod 25 revolver because of a small factory defect. They fixed it, reblued the gun with their royal finish ,did a trigger and paid shipment cost both ways and did not charge me a cent. the Blue and trigger jobs were for customer satisfaction.

Another vote for the DW PM7 . I have the PM9 and it is one of my favorite pistols . I sold my new TRP unfired because I could not stand the feel of the front checkering . You might like that , but I would try and handle one before I bought one online like I did .

I'm on the verge of getting a Colt 1911 Series 70 to remind myself of the M1911A1 I carried in Vietnam. But if I'd brought mine home, I would not be in the 1911 market. As launchers of the .45ACP, my SIG P220 and new Walther PPQ45 are more to my liking, and I think the CZ97 will be, too.

I picked up the Sig STX back in the Fall of 2014. The only thing I've done to it is change out the grips. Great gun. I don't shoot it much anymore but when I do I always remember why I got it.

Your 100 percent right on not seeing the gun first. I recently purchased a stainless Colt 1991 Government Model. And the slide waviness on right side of slide is silly. I don't know if I should do anything about it , but it's silly for 800 dollar ends up 850 otd. Bought it at gun genie and its convenient, but you see nothing until it arrives.
