Which 1911 would you buy

I am looking at the S&W 1911 PC, The Springfield TRP, SIG 1911 STX, Dan Wesson PM 7. My dealer can not find the DW. That is my # 1 pick.
2nd would be S&W, 3rd SIG ,4th TRP. What do you 45ers think. Use is for target shooting and some action shooting,. I do not compete but do shoot a lot. Also into sporting clays. I have a # of 1911's just looking for something new.

Sporting clays with a 1911 should be challenging. :)
Personally, I'm sold on Springfields.
They seem like very solid versions, especially for the money.
And a company that sponsors the Great One has to top the list, just 'cause.

If I already had a "#" (I do), I would be looking at something REALLY nice (I am), even if I had to sell off some of the existing assortment (I don't).
Why another mass produced ho hum pistol?

If I was buying a steel Government size pistol it would be a Colt 1991A1.

If I was buying a Commander it would be a lightweight and the Ruger has a titanium frame ramp insert for unlimited shooting. I don't care for bare stainless or Novaks so I'd probably hunt a Colt Commander slide for it.

I have several Colts and several Dan Wessons. All are fine guns, but I'm partial to the Dan Wesson. They seem tighter and have much better triggers right out of the box. DW would definitely be my choice if I was going to get another 1911....followed closely by the Colt.

Dan Wesson has excellent customer service.

I’ve owned a couple of Colts and they have been excellent guns, so for me that is probably the direction I’d go. I also own an SA and it has been a great gun, so might also consider that depending on model and price.

I have several 1911s. The one that I shoot MOST often is the Springfield TRP. It is a very nice gun. Quite heavy and recoil is mild. I opted to get rid of the goofy factory guide rod thingy and replaced it with a Dawson tool less guide rod. This gun ranks right up there with the Sigs and Smith and Wesson Pro Series and Dan Wesson Valor.

Springfield TRP (Biased cause I own and love mine.)

Colt anything (Biased cause I've owned almost a dozen.)

Yes! Did the same. Dropped the full length thinga-majig as well.

Not to mention, my 1911 guru is Bob Hunter (Hunter Customs) and he says Springfield is good to go, specifically the TRP. That's a damn good endorsement. I've also determined that for myself

Thanks for the replies shooters. I already have a few 1911's: a Colt Gold Cup that I had Clark work on , (It is a great gun), Have a Kimber Raptor ( Not crazy about it,) Springfield Basic (good gun), AMT hardballer, S&W 1911 (not a PC),Springfield Champion, Dan Wesson 7S-40, And a Sig P220 target. Just looking for something to add to my safe queens. I have considered Ed Brown and Les Brown but I don't think the extra $1000+ is worth it. I wish I could find the Dan Wesson PM 7 or the Silverback. I'll keep looking. I have seen them on The Gunbrooker . I Dont know if I want to buy it unseen online. If I could order it at my dealer I can always say ,hay bad trigger or fit with no return hassle.

You didn't ask me. But yes, I recommend them every chance I get and I'll even go as far as to say I love them.

Just don't put something on layaway and attempt to change it to something else. They'll charge you 20% even though you're still giving them business.

I too have bought from Buds with out problems. The should be good to go, as for the ones you listed, go with the Dan Wesson.

radmeter-I was all set to give my personal 'get the Springfield Ranger Officer' rant cause it has got adjustable sights and is a really good buy for the money but now I see you've already got a worked over Gold Cup amongst others

!!!

Well my gosh you're certainly ahead of me in the 1911 department so I will recommend you get the Les Baer (cleaned that up for you) and see for yourself what the extra money gets you. If I live long enough and quit frittering my savings away on other stuff I WILL get one some day and I expect I'll be very pleased. Oh I'll freely admit to my range buddies that 'yeah it probably isn't worth the extra money' but it will be the one you'll have to pry out of my cold yadda yadda yaddy.

Good luck, buying a new 1911, ANY 1911 is a GOOD thing.

I have heard incredible things about the SIG. I've only ever owned one SIG and that is the only SIG I have ever fired so I couldn't tell from my own experience but all my friends that own SIG pistols love them. For the quality they aren't at a crazy price either. You seem to have a decent budget. Have you considered a Nighthawk or Kimber?

Out of the choices given though I like the SIG. They seem to be good with warranty work if anything does actually go wrong with it.

Of the ones mentioned (and of the many that weren't), I'd recommend the SIG STX, especially if you plan on action and target shooting. The STX, like my similar Model TTT, comes with night sights that include a fully adjustable, yet very compact, rear sight. The SIG pistol seems well-made and nicely finished. My SIG shoots as well as my Colt Gold Cup in terms of accuracy and has proven to be more reliable than the Colt when many different factory and reloads are being used.
My preferences aside, I doubt you could go wrong with any of the pistols you cited.

Purchased a Colt 1991A1 about 15 years ago, numerous problems. Springfield Armory Loaded about 5 years ago. Accurate, totally reliable, beautiful fit and finish. Ruger Commander 2 months ago, needed to send back to Ruger, FTF's.
Ruger sent it back 2 weeks later with an adjusted extractor. I have ran 200 rounds of mixed ball ammo, no problems. The Ruger, does not have the same fit as the Springer, but it is just as accurate, (excellent).

If you want something you don't have take a look at one of these STI 2011Tactical 4.0 45acp. They a 5" one too.
