I am planning to move out of Connecticut in three years ( or less)
as my son graduates High school in two years, and daughter graduates this June.
I will need time to organize, job search, sell house, etc

That is going to become a very important question for many Americans in the coming years. Sadly, we are going to become a patchwork of freedoms instead of a "united" states.
I do know it would not be Conn. or Colorado or a few of the other eastern states.
In Arkansas now and it looks good for coming years.

The jobs thing is the tough part, I am making a lot more here in Illinois than I was back in Florida. Literally since moving back here in 2007 I am making almost 5 times as much as I was back in Florida.

Right now the plan is to jump the border to Southern Wisconsin and just drive a bit further. If Wisconsin turned the crap in the mean time, I guess I would consider some place like TN, maybe even South Carolina or Virginia.

You're welcome in Texas. Better than average economy & a dollar will go a bit further here. We love our guns, hunting, fishing, BBQ & all outdoors. Hot as hell in the summer, but I only think I saw a snow flake or two last winter! LOL

...bug

I'm retired, so jobs aren't an issue. I live in a seniors' apartment complex, so housing is not currently a problem, though rents and home prices are quite reasonable here. But I also live in a very nice city with a lot of cultural and sports amenities, in a shall-issue, castle-doctrine, stand-your-ground state, and I'm quite happy with that.

Open carry is legal too, and has been for many years, but I don't do it or recommend it. It's legal to have a loaded firearm in your car without a carry license provided it's out of sight and doesn't leave the vehicle except leaving and returning to your home.

I'm thinking the MS gulf coast just east of New Orleans. I was stationed there in the mid-70's and found it relatively 2A friendly, motorcycle riding weather year round and cost of living was easy on the wallet. There's plenty of homesites available and they're not due for another hurricane for another 30 years. By then I'll be dead.

Here in Georgia things seem to be pretty good from a 2A standpoint. The weather is decent we have four seasons, but nothing extreme. Overall I would say the economy is improving, but not sure the job situation has totally recovered. There are lots of decent housing options and I think the prices are good compared to some other areas. The State offers lots of diverse activates with oceans, mountains, major sports, a major airport, etc. However, Georgia does have a few pockets to avoid, so do a little bit of research, but sure this is true for any state.

My issue is that my wife would probably drop dead if she happened upon a Snake or a Gator in the wild, which is why I have also been thinking of retirment in WV. Really beautiful state, from what I gather the jobs picture is not that great thus retirment ;).

You guys near Atlanta, I really have respect for you. I thought Chicago traffic was bad until I decided to drive through Atlanta on I75 at the wrong time!

Utah would be my first choice. Salt Lake City,Provo ,Ogden and other medium sized cities have job opportunities.

The scenery is breathtaking and you have 5 fantastic National Parks:Arches,Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capital Reef and Zion.

Fine gun laws and excellent hunting, good fishing. The southwest part of the state around Cedar City and St.George has fairly mild winters.

The southeast part around Bluff,Blandings, just north of Monument Valley, is very relaxing, great trails and an outdoor paradise.

I'm stuck in Miami because of an extended family. Without that problem ,my wife and I are gone to Bluff,Utah in a New York Minute.

Our second choice state would be New Mexico, somewhere near Taos.

Already did; left CA for Texas the second I retired ... never looked back, wouldn't go back if they gave me a free house on Malibu beach ...

bumblebug is correct on all counts; money goes so much further here, people are friendly, guns are welcome and the Legislature only meets for a few months every two years, putting somewhat of a limit on the mischief they can get into ... we love it; only seen a few snakes, tho there are a million deer walking through our yard every day ... and it it hot, for sure ... that's what the AC switch on your thermostat is for ...

I love Florida. I don't think I could live anywhere else. I'm not sure about jobs yet. But I love the weather and the scenery. We have hardly any restrictions that aren't federal. The only thing I can think of is that you can only open carry while hunting, fishing, at the range, at work, or on the way to these things.

I also don't know much about housing though :p I just really like where I live

A few of the companies I represent are based in Oklahoma, it gets like 110 there in the summer and you guys get terrible ice storms in the winter right?
Its like crossing Miami with Southern Illinois?

Florida is a great state, I kick myself every other day for leaving in 2007. Even though I was stuck in the peoples republic of Gainesville it was still worlds better than Illinois. Alas maybe like Ulysses I will see it again before I die some day far far in the future.

Tenn. Having fished trout all over this great country if I was forced to fish one trout stream/river, it's in Tenn. Trout bums don't need much money so the economics don't factor in.....;)

Definitely Florida if you are retiring or just need a minor supplemental income. Good weather (more shooting time)and good fishing.

Vermont has 5 seasons (including Mud Season), almost no gun laws (no 'permission' needed to carry open or concealed, but silencers are 'illegal' $25 fine), and unemployment is 4.4% last month...

I fish landlock Salmon on Lake Champlain from a boat every month of the year (most years)...2010 I stopped counting when I hit 100 days on the water...

Just make sure if you stray over the deep water line into NY that you are not carrying...

Arizona is great on many counts as well. We got some folks taking advantage of what happened to Gabby Giffords trying to turn AZ like they did CO, but I don't think they stand a chance.

Cost of living is a little higher the Texas and Oklahoma, but I like the dryer climate and if your living in the higher elevations the heat is nothing like the valleys. We rarely top 100 in Sierra Vista. And if the border ever settles down Mexico is a nice place to get away from things for awhile.

Well I have the word out to my wife that we need to start looking. The bug I put in her ear was Georgia (north west area by Tenn and Alabama). But a few guys on here are making me think to look into Texas. The 2A and CCW will play a very big part in my choice. But I wont be doing this until I retire which I will be able to do in 6 years. But with smaller children I my stay an extra 5 years to make the total 11 years for retirement... But I do plan on having the retirement home bought with in the next 6 years, so I can leave if things get really bad at work and my state.
