Where Is The Best Place(s) To Buy A Gun Online?

I have had two very positive experiences with Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore (sossdirect.com) in recent months, getting two S&W police trade-in .38s (a Model 10 and a Model 64) for very reasonable prices. Shipping was very quick, and the person I dealt with was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Remember , you're not dealing with Gunbroker. They merely run the website , like Ebay. You deal with other dealers. Most are FFL licensees , many are not. Most are honest , straight-shooting , square-dealing folks. Many are not. Be sure to check the sellers feedback vs number of deals.

Then ya have to consider your local FFL dealer. He's gonna have to charge for doing the required paperwork. Many do this for a flat fee. Many FFLs will not accept guns shipped from non-license holders.

And if ya don't patronize your local gun shop , they won't be around long. And WalMart won't do transfers for guns bought on line.

Check Out GalleryofGunsdotcom

It, IMO, combines online shopping and supporting your local gun stores.

You can look at prices of the gun online and compare prices at your local gun stores and then buy from whoever you want.

Another vote for CDNN (If they have what you want). As posted earlier they usually have closeouts and odd lots, but I got a S&W 5906 for $299 and a Kel Tec P3AT for $189 from them.

Davidson's Gallery of Guns is great also. As the othe poster mentioned they figure the shipping and tax to select local FFls and you can get a final price from them. the prices seem competative and you can shop from your sofa:D

Have done a lot of looking, but not purchased over internet. Use buds as reference.

Also look at gallery of guns. They use local dealers and you get a better price. Still, most of time cheaper through online deal and FFL transfer. However, I live in U.S.S.R. - Oh, I mean Chicago. And, they don't have any dealers close.

Of my recent likes, Gallery of Guns is out except the Remington R1e.
M&P 9mm Pro
XD(m) 5.25
High-Point 9mm
Ruger SR1911

Anything I want they don't have so have to search online.

So hard to find a FFL without driving an hour out to burbs. Bought something at Cabela's, had to drive out, back, and then back to pick up 72 hrs. later.
4 hours plus gas.

I found one FFL that is about 6 miles and charges 30.00 per handgun, so am going to try them. Does this sound fair compared to other remote FFL dealers?

For the first gun, it's typically $20-50 depending on the FFL. However, most of them will discount the second gun (if more than one total in order). Your remote FFL sounds reasonable to me.

most of mine have been purchased at a local dealer, have only bought thru centerfiresystems online and they were great. they have a limited inventory of guns though. paid my local guy $25 to do the transfer. it was a gun that they did not have in stock.

I believe that most of the big-box stores are reputable these days. They really can't afford to be otherwise because of the competition. I've dealt with numerous of them and never had a problem. If you're dealing with an individual or an unknown entity it would be prudent to do your homework before entering into any type of transaction like that. Just my two cents. Thanks, Paul

I have bought from Bud's, Gunboker and forum members.

Bud's has fair prices, free shipping and a long inspection/try out period. All good, but slow. It takes them a week or so to get you the gun by their standard method. This is really unacceptable, IMO.

Gunbroker is a nice format. You generally know who you are dealing with. They have a feedback system. The negative here is the most guns are listed overpriced. Actually, Bud's will beat the price of most Gunbroker dealers.

Auction Arms looks better than Gunbroker, but I can't ever find the right deal there. I have bought extras there.

Forum members. This includes people I've dealt with from about 5-10 different forums. Usually these people represent their guns well, trade at very good to good pricing and are stand up folks. Sometimes deals can be a little weird where they don't really want to say who they are....but I can tell you, the Internet is a funny place. If you search long enough, you can find most anybody. On the other hand, in a FTF deal I want the gun traceability trail broken. I don't want to give or receive more than we need to close the deal. For me, online, I have to know enough to call the local sheriff if the deal goes bad. I've never had to do that.

I have purchased a pistol from a forum member, one at Shore Galleries in Skokie, IL, and the rest from Gunbroker.com, Summit Gun Broker, Samco and J&G online. No problems so far.

I bought one pistol from Bud's without any problem.
Also bought a few at auction on GB. Only had a problem with the last one I won. FFL dealer said it had matching box and it did not. I have returned it for a full refund (incl. shipping). I did lose out on the $30 I paid my ffl to receive the gun.
