Where do you do your gun Research?

Anyone have a favorite site where they find info such as specs, reviews, prices, etc when they are in the market for a handgun? Or do you go to various sources (i.e. forums for reviews, google shopping for prices, etc)

Ha ha shootiniron. The throne is where I do 90% of my research. I don't know what I would do without my iPod Touch.

Seriously though I do a lot my research on here and have different pages open with various manufacturer sites.
I also use genitron and google.

i browse through this forum alot ( recently signed up), many of the people here have professional experience as soldiers, long term ( responsible) gun holders or gun makers.

The majority of my firearms research starts:

1. Here - The Firing Line
2. Sturmgewehr for machine gun and other NFA inforamtion
3. Gunbroker
4. Sometimes books
5. For period Colt SAA's I have a knowledgeable collector friend who helps me out.
6. For O/U shotguns - I have another collector friend who helps me out.

It depends on the kind of research I am seeking.

I almost never go to U-Tube for anything other than entertainment.

For specs and "what's available", gun company web sites.

For price, I start with the Blue Book of Gun Values, review forum comments, look at completed auctions on GB or Auction Arms, or I simply follow my gut. I do often check what a couple retailers are asking for new guns on line.

I mostly follow my gut on the kinds of guns I usually purchase.

For historical information, I read books, review Gun Digests from my collection, review company catalogs, review or ask opinions from people I consider knowledgable or expert, or follow my gut. About two-thirds of the time, I rely on my basic foundation of knowledge, the Blue Book, and my gut.

I enjoy the forums, but my views of pricing is not significantly based on what the latest "bargain" somebody found which is generally often the only prices you see on forums or sometimes they are years old. Yep, I bought a Colt Diamondback or Pythons for $300.... me too, 20 years ago.

For day to day stuff, I prefer to rely on posts on TFL over some of the other forums even though I participate in some of those too. I especially like RFC for rimfire stuff.

Do you guys ever browse you tube videos for reviews, videos of people shooting the gun your interested in, etc?

Yes... Frequently... It's so easy. I can fast forward or skip the bad ones... and savor the good ones.

The only thing I find useful on youtube is when someone takes down a gun I'm interested in and shows some detailed pictures of the frame, slide, barrel, parts, etc.

At this point in my life there ain't many I haven't personally owned, or at least used. Personal experience along with that of trusted friends are the only resources I really trust. Much of what I've found is far different than what is posted on the net. Most of the magazine articles don't exactly lie, they just don't tell the whole truth. They will always point out the guns good points, brag about how accurate it is etc. But never mention that the particular gun is no more accurate than many others, and is less reliable.

Yep. I subscribe to Hicock45's videos. He discusses the guns he's featuring and does a ton of shooting with them. He'll get into the likes and dislikes, point out the weapon's features and gives his overall impression. Does quite a few comparisons too.

I start on the mfg's site, then Google to read reviews - Google to find the brand-specifi forum (KahrTalk / Glocktalk etc..), then I watch eveything on YouTube.

I get bored with YouTube. I don't go on there much for guns because it seems they are always longwinded about stuff I'm not interested in. Hicock and gunblast are pretty good though. Gunblast's beard is truly something to see. :)
