Where are these new Remingtin ADLs coming from?

According to Remington's web site, the SPS replaced the ADL line when it was introduced several years back. Last week I was bouncing around town to compare prices of the Savage Axis. So we walk in Academy Sports and see new in-the-box Remington 700 ADLs in a couple different calibers for $379. They are all synthetic stocks and matte blue finish. Cool part was they had 24" barrels.

Long story short, I bought one in .270 instead of the Axis. So I wonder are these still manufactured and just carried by select stores or would it just be new old stock? I would have thought any surplus of these guns would have been sold by now. I couldn't find anything on the internet. No big deal but it intrigued me when I saw them. After I bought mine, I looked around and discovered Gander Mountain actually sells them in a gun/scope combo. Anybody know the deal with that?
 
Several years ago they dropped ADL and BDL which were supposed to be replaced by CDL and SPS. They were no longer going to offer a blind magazine option.

But there was enough demand that they brought back the gawdy looking BDL in limited production and in limited calibers. The only place I actually see them is at Walmart.

I don't know exactly why, but they did the same thing with the ADL but never have shown it in the catalog or online. They have offered them in both matte blue and SS finish at very good prices for the last 4-5 years at big box stores such as Sportsmans Warehouse, Walmart, etc. At one time a package deal with throw away scope could be had for $350 in blue or $470ish in SS. I know several guys who bought the SS versions, trashed the stock and put a McMillan on them. Ended up with a really nice rifle for under $1,000.

Personally, I'd RATHER have the ADL version if buying a 700. Their bottom metal isn't all that good anyway.
 
Oh ok. Makes sense. That's the exact route I took. Have an aluminum bedding blocked stock and DBM conversion kit in the mail. I'm excited about this gun for my new primary deer rifle. I have a 30-06 BDL and my taste is old but I think it's beautiful. Same goes for a Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe I have. I just love the high gloss wood. Only problem is I'm so anal about scratching them up. That's why I went out looking for a synthetic. Thanks for the info.
 
ADL, BDL, CDL and SPS are the same thing with different stocks and finishes. Some BDL's(with the DM attached) had the detachable mag.
 
Big box stores get the BDL/ADL versions. A Remington employee told me that the big box rifles are made on the older production lines and with older tooling.
 
I haven't seen the BDL at my local big box stores but some of my LGS carry them. I assume any of them could order one except the ones that just get what they are sent like Academy Sports. The BDL is still advertised on Remington's web site but the ADL is not. I would not be too surprised about the old tooling thing if it were true but just curious what that Remington employee's position is.
 
A Remington 700 is a Remington 700. It would make no sense to produce one on different equipment. The only difference is in the level of finish, the stock, and magazine.

ADL, BDL, and DBM are simply designations to describe different magazines. Some try to make more of it than that, but there have been multiple versions of each style. I've seen ADL's with glossy wood and metal as well as BDL's with matte finish and tupperware stocks.

ADL's all have blind magazines. DBM rifles are detachable box magazines. BDL rifles all have floor plates. The CDL, SPS, Sendero, Classic or anything else with a floor plate are simply versions of the BDL.
 
You will eventually learn that half of what Remington makes is not in its Catalog and half of what is in their catalog they do not make. (slight exaggeration)
 
What interests me is the ADL mentioned by the OP had a 24" barrel. Every ADL I've ever handled had a 22" barrel. Frankly, I've always preferred 24" barrels considering the generally open country I hunt. Also 26" barrels on my magnums. Just a case of different stroke for different folks. ;)

Last year i picked up a Adl in 270 win at walmart for $289 and get this it has a 26" bbl. Ive never heard of a factory 270win with a tube that long and unlike the other rem 700s I own the throat is short enough to easily seat bullets just off the lands even with flat base 130gr bullets.
 
what accuracy can be expected in the Remington's ? Are they accurate out of the box or do they need to be worked on ?
 
Unless it has a particular problem, a 700 will shoot as good as any of it's competition. A 26" 270, sweet!
 
Can't speak to the CDL and SPS, but there is more to the difference between the ADL and BDL than just the magazine. The stock and finish is also quite different, at least in the examples I have.

My ADL is parkerized, and came in a rather flimsy black plastic stock.
My BDL has a rather nice deep blued finish on the metal, and came in a wood stock.
