When is it time to sell that firearm?

Let me clarify christcorp. As I wasn't able to shoot 357 accurately with quick follow up shots, I was relegated to using 38sp, 5 shots. 8+1 of 9mm is definitely more 'firepower' than what the SP offered in 38.

Wife lost her job in real estate 'bout a year ago (actually she lost a string of jobs in the real estate biz during the meltdown). She found a new job in a new industry a couple months later, but I had to sell my prized GP100 during that time to cover a dental emergency. I don't plan to ever sell another gun, but stuff happens. If it took my wife much longer I would be almost armless. I would have kept the shotgun no matter what happened (insurance policy:))

..let some nice ones get away, including a Ruger No.1 RSI in 243.......OUCH!

That's a kick in the groin. I have one in 7x57 and the above situation had me considering puttin' it up on the block.

My normal response, is NEVER sell/trade them! Keep them all! However, in real life, If I have one that I have lost interest in or simply don't shoot anymore and can trade/sell it for one I am lusting after, I will sell it. I sold my AMT AutoMag III in 9mm WinMagnum because I knew I could get good money for it and get 2 other guns I wanted and that the new owner would appreciate it.

I rarely sell any of my guns. But, occassionaly, I purge my collection of things that I have no interest in. I sold a closed bolt Mac10 that I bought back in 1988. I fired it once, and just had no interest in it any longer. It was taking up space in my safe.

I also sold a 1950's mfg. Norinco SKS. Nice rifle - just doesn't hold any interest for me and it took up room. Every now and then I look at all of my firearms and earmark some that just don't "do it" for me anymore. Next on my hit-list is probably going to be a nice Colt CAR-Sp1 carbine. I'm probably going to try and use this as trading fodder for a Sig 556 if I ever get around to it. I don't believe I ever even fired the Sp1.

I'll never sell as i told the wife it just might be our retirement funds the way the economy and teamster pensions go.It helps to have gotten in on firearm collecting when you could get swedish mausers for $39,FN49 and Hakims for $79,M1 Garands $189,M1 carbines $149.And i still have all of mine.

selling guns???

I never buy a gun that I don't plan on keeping forever. Guess that clears it up for my opinion on when to sell. Besides, I like to be able to pick and choose which gun today. ;)

I sold a new Bersa 40 caliber "high capacity" but only because it had ftf/eject problems that I couldn't get rid of. Otherwise I would have kept it. I won't keep any gun that can't be trusted.

I have only sold 3 guns in my lifetime. A Taurus 9mm which shot well, a Ruger Stainless Steel Super Blackhawk in 44 mag and a Colt H-Bar competition 223. All of which I do not regret. They all funded other purchases and helped friends get into shooting at a reasonable price.

I've sold at least 25 or more weapons I wish I still had. IMHO never sell a gun that works you'll eventually want it back.

If it's junk or jams ditch it...

About 15 years ago, I standardized on my ammo and sold all my 9mms. Glock 19, Kahr K9, and a Hi-Power (chrome target version).

Other than that, I don't normally sell my guns. I usually trade them in for credit towards something else.

Never sell a gun. Once you have it, even if you have not use the weapon, it will appreciate in value. Think of it as an investment in the future for you and your family.

Or you can always send them to me and I will keep it:D
