What's your opinion of the new Dan Wesson?

I see several new Dan Wesson revolvers on gunbroker. They are advertised as "pre production" and one seller said the finish is somewhat irregular.

One seller:
I must note the few early Pre-Production revolvers are marked blem on the box.

Do any of you own one of the new ones? How's the action? Is the barrel interchangeable with the old ones?

I'll admit it's a pretty good looking gun.

There have been some very nice reviews on the Dan Wesson forum. Some peoples blems were a tiny pin head spot on the trigger guard. Some people have said that the finish doesn't seem to be as good as it can be on other blems.I own 3 of there 1911s and they have all been amazing. So I am sure this gun is going to be great!!

since thats full price for a non blem gun seems kinda stupid. DW are amazing revolvers. Seems like the GP100 took ideas from it. sadly with the older ones the triggers could not be tuned as smooth as a S&W in DA but the SA is very nice.

They follow the same patterns as the removable barreled ones. So old and new parts will interchange.

What else do you want to know about them?

Other than the price, which would make me want to look at used ones, and make me love my near mint 715 even more than I do already, I have nothing bad to say about it at all. I got my 715 in 2006, in the original box, with paperwork, 3 grips, wrench, a gun rug, and some internal extra parts, for $269! One of my best deals ever.

How is the action? Seems I remember a gun store employee on here who said the action was really awful. Are they still using the same type of internal parts that cannot be honed?

I'm just interested in overall impressions of anybody who bought one.

Interesting comments. I found the action on all of my DW's to be quite smooth and the trigger pull to be excellent. Having now owned about a dozen of them I don't see much variation but then again, my older ones were all monson's and the newer ones are norwich.

I shoot my Norwich (new one) about 50/50 double action and single action. Both are smooth, short throws and fun to shoot..

I think of the double action trigger stroke more like a Colt than and S&W. You can stage the trigger and then drop the hamer just like a single action shot with the DW's.

They are nicely machined, fit together well, easy to clean (I usually pull the barrel off just for ease) and accurate.

What more can you ask for?

Having owned DW in the past I know about the gun.

I'm just trying to find somebody who owns the recent introduction of the DW revolver. It's not necessarily the same animal as my Monson 744.

So, you do own the new one? And you like it? The action is smooth? Thanks. That's what I wanted to know.

Yes, I own a new one. The Norwich ones are the modern production.

My Norwich ones are just as good as my Monsons and I feel the the trigger is better on them.

I really like mine. The trigger was smooth right out of the box, it is accurate, reliable and easy to shoot well. Mine was made a few years back and I bought it used but have zero complaints.

I know nothing about their mechanics. I probably wouldn't buy one, though. That squared off underlug seems like it would make it hard to find a holster for this gun. Also, for the price, I just don't think I'll get anything out of it I can't get out of a GP100 or 686 with less money and an hour or so of work. I could be wrong, but that's my impression.

model 715

Without seen the new ones in person and handling it I don't know for sure...however ," if I find " they are built anywhere near the quality level of their 1911's I want one someday !

If they are as good as my old Dan Wesson 6" .22lr then I'm all for it. There is definitely room for a new player in the revolver market and a proven design with quality would be a welcome addition.

I have a Monson DW from circa 1980 and really like it. I wonder if the new Dan Wesson .357s will become available in Soviet California....???

It would be a major marketing blunder if they didn't. Cal is a huge, huge market. And given the dearth of other quality revolvers available overall, they've got a guaranteed money maker.

Yeah, it'll be available.

Ahhh, if only it were so easy. You make it sound like some fatcat sits behind a mahogany desk with a cigar hanging from his mouth and he either decides to sell to California or he doesn't...

The gun has to meet numerous idiot restrictions and it costs the manufacturer big money just to submit it to the state for acceptance. And if they offer varied models, it's hit or miss as to which variances ALSO have to be submitted for testing, at extreme costs.

I would tend to agree with you that the market is large enough that they will tackle that obvious hassle simply for the large potential for sales in California, but let's not make it sound like it's a no-brainer here and/or it's like deciding between a Coke or a Sprite with lunch.

I like it too! I didn't mind the 'chop, but the originals, with the exposed nut were a bit too much.

It seems like some people just don't like the DW type of action, especially in DA shooting. I personally don't understand why exactly. My S&W 28 was smoother, but it had been worked on before I got it, it had an action job and was miles smoother than an untouched one that I compared it to. Since the vast majority of my shooting has been with one of my DW 15-2's, I'm totally used to it.

I love my porkchop too! So much it is my daily carry.

BTW, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that jazz, but I fail too see how anyone could dislike DWs actions. All I have fired had butter smooth DA, and the shortest lock time this side of an Anschutz rifle.

I hate the location of the cylinder release on them .... its a deal breaker to me, I looked at a 4 barrel set, new in the box recently, just couldn't bring myself to buy it....( I don't know which model it was )....fit and finish on it looked ok .../ but I'm still a S&W revolver guy !
